I don't know the answer to the question, but like Hawk4shur suggested, I think that "academically ineligible" is a thing of the past as far as college athletics go.

Heck, Carson Beck came out and admitted that he hadn't taken a class for years, and none at Miami, during a CFP Championship Game interview.

Enrolled at the school absolutely. Actually taking classes? Probably not. Probably better they're not anyways. Why take up space and resources another STUDENT could use. Or better yet another STUDENT ATHLETE from the tennis or golf team or some other non professional actual college sport.

I think schools have gotten really good at managing players academics by doing things like:
  • Funneling students into manageable majors
  • Keeping course loads light during the main playing seasons
  • Utilizing online courses (that may not have the same rigor as in-person classes)
  • Tracking what professors/classes are athlete-friendly, and pushing students in that direction
  • Intense academic support for players

Many students with questionable academic skills are funneled into online courses and have tutors who do their homework.

An old friend still has friends who work there. Athletes still have to register and pass classes. He doesn't know about SEC schools, just Iowa.

Pretty sad actually. So in regards to Iowa football, I'm assuming all the guys with the grad decal on their helmets (we had probably 20 last year) and many this year, have actually completed the coursework and graduated. I believe Hank Brown, ( and NO this is not a slap at Heck, before someone goes there) already graduated before he came to Iowa, or certainly last year. I know Mark G had already graduated before he came to Iowa, so yes some guys are taking advantage of their opportunity and I'm going to assume that Iowa does expect them to go to class. Same at schools like NW. I'm sure there are lots of schools that don't care. So to answer the question, probably depends on the University.

i believe iowa sent a pretty good player (forget his name) on his way as recently as this season…rumor was academics. happens from time to time under kf
This may stun many sports fans, but scholarship money is awarded to many students because they are smart. They don't even have to be athletes. The first part of the word should give it away.
Smith the WR ended up in Iowa Western I believe, and yes Iowa players have to go to class......
