Michigan and Penn State meeting in week SEVEN of the 2026 season (both were considered "fringe" playoff contenders by the "experts").

One of them will walk off the field with their FIRST Big Ten win of the year, the other will remain winless going into week 8.

Our bowl game versus Clemson last season was very similar. Both were former top five teams that flamed out spectacularly.

Does that mean that 1/2 of each roster will be "opting out"? :)

Too early, maybe?

If they did opt-out, would it be noticeable?
Would they still get all their "NIL" money? (Wasn't that a big question last year?)

the only thing surprising here is that anyone considered them fringe playoff contenders in the first place. The results as they currently stand, aren't that surprising.

PSU was favored to win in each of their 3 losses - so, some relatively knowlegeable people felt they was enough talent to have them 6-0 heading into the Michigan game, which would have made them, at the end of 6 weeks, a fringe playoff team. Therefore, the results, are they currently stand, are surprising, irritating and annoying.

They are not favored to win vs. Michigan.

They'll probably make this below average Michigan team with a very feeble offense look like the 2023 Michigan team.
