Campus space at most universities these days is at a premium, but SMU built the most elite club Lacrosse facility in the country not too long ago. So the space is already allocated and they wont need too many upgrades. They also pull from prep school populations into SMU so the Lacrosse culture is already there to a certain degree.
I'm a little surprised they did not add Women's Lax or something like gymnastics at the same time, but I guess they somehow have Title IX covered?
The timing is also surprising. On top of all schools having to figure out how to fund all the new schollies and rev share, and the potential Federal Bill doubling rev share, most schools are really struggling budget-wise. And on top of that, SMU gets no ACC revenue for years to come as a part of their entry agreement. But I guess these are the spoils of $6 diesel when your alumni are in TX.
