They just don't like change. They have a false memory of how college football once was based on nostalgia.I don't understand those who think a 24-team playoff will somehow ruin college football. How so?? More teams crying about being disrespected can put up or shut up in win or go home games. And I don't care about the bowls. Most of the minor ones are boring AF. The other divisions of college football have a successful playoff every year. I don't hear talk of them being ruined.
The opposing point of view is in regards to the meaning of the result of a game for the contenders. It destroys this false belief that games meant more during the regular season. Very few games meant anything. 70% of FBS was eliminated before playing a game
I agree and see that as one of the benefits.Wrong...this encourages teams to play more difficult games
Ohio State lost 2 games...that should have never eliminated anyone from contending for a title. The opposing point of view is in regards to the meaning of the result of a game for the contenders.
Multiple mulligans are provided to teams now, and only a great Dec-Jan is now required as opposed to a great Aug-Jan. See tOSU two seasons ago.
Tournaments are funYou got your wish.
Yup looking for fvccks to give and can’t find even one
BINGO. Money always talks and you know what walks. Hell let’s just do away with half the season and let 128 teams make the playoffs.Correction. The focus is on money.
Intentionally or not, you missed the point. I responded to your projection of the other sides thoughts about the regular season.Ohio State lost 2 games...that should have never eliminated anyone from contending for a title.
The sport isn't just about Ohio State, Notre Dame and Georgia. It's about 138 (or whatever teams)...our base seems to dismiss that because we're in a major conference and should be able to contend for 4, 8 or 12 spots.
24 was always going to happen. It's been necessary for a very long time.
Fans will still watch the elite games but now other games matter too
Hoarding them in your basement.....I have a few to spare….
A trophy for everyone, to which JoePa would reply "take your trophy and shove it"
Yet how many games have more meaning?Intentionally or not, you missed the point. I responded to your projection of the other sides thoughts about the regular season.
The results of tOSU’s ‘24 regular season games mattered less than the results of their, say ‘96 or ‘98 games. This year’s Texas-tOSU matchup matters less than their ‘05 matchup.
Or, closer to home, the results of PSU’s ‘24 regular season (including CCG) mattered less than the results of the ‘22 or ‘23 regular seasons games even though they were all just about equal in reality.
Bowls are participation trophies. This forces you to earn it on the field.A trophy for everyone, to which JoePa would reply "take your trophy and shove it"
Because EVERYBODY wants to watch Texas take on the mighty Blue Hens of Delaware in a 77-3 barn burner.Bowls are participation trophies. This forces you to earn it on the field.
Explain how a 24 team playoff results in that matchup?Because EVERYBODY wants to watch Texas take on the mighty Blue Hens of Delaware in a 77-3 barn burner.
More worthless games will replace the worthless bowls so nothing gained there. You haven't eliminated them, just transitioned to a different venue. But more is better, right?
That is 100% the correct comment IMO if you are a PSU fan. The Big 10 is so large and has several powerhouses every year that getting into the top 4-5 is extremely difficult and should be rewarded. It also limits the politics of the selection process somewhat.Thank God...best news ever
For some unknown reason you keep yammering away that I'm in favor of bowl games when I am not. I am saying you need to explain why shifting crappy games from a bowl to calling it "playoff" makes a 77-3 game interesting. Or better.Explain how a 24 team playoff results in that matchup.
A playoff game is never worthless as the outcome matters unlike the scrimmage known as a bowl game
Where are you getting 77-3 or that matchup? See FCS. 9 vs 24 will rarely be a huge blowout but blowouts can happen in 1 v 2. Obviously it's better when it's when and move on. That's not de arable. For some unknown reason you keep yammering away that I'm in favor of bowl games when I am not. You have been all in favor of changes that you claim make CFB "better". Some of these changes have come about, yet do not result in "better". Quite the opposite.
You have yet to make a compelling argument how moving from a 77-3 bowl game to a playoff game makes it "better". While you are at it, start working on your argument that NIL and the portal have improved the quality of the game.Where are you getting 77-3 or that matchup? This make FBS infinitely better for thr 138 members. Stop focusing on the elite programs. More games matter even if it reduces the best games to a battle over seeds and a bye.
How do you not comprehend advancing to the next round matters? I know you're not logical but you're taking stupid to another level. You have yet to make a compelling argument how moving from a 77-3 bowl game to a playoff game makes it "better". "Look, there is this exciting sport called College Football, really neat. Lets change it."
Not mad, upset, etc. Just tired of you acting like your take on this is "better" for the sport. You don't have a clue how the future will play out. Unintended consequences can and will happen. How do you not comprehend advancing to the next round matters? I know you're not logical but you're taking stupid to another level.
When have I ever supported NIL or the portal? Accepting they're a reality because colleges refused to pay players for the past 40 years isn't supporting them. It's dealing with reality.
We've needed a large playoff since the 80s...like every other college sport. Has we done that we'd still have regional conferences and the NCAA would be somewhat relevant.
You can be as mad, upset, etc as you want. This was inevitable as I've always said and you being unable to enjoy it is simply pathetic and predictable but you be you.
The only valid argument here is all conference winners should have an auto bid.![]()
Why there are a multitude of issues with the 24-team playoff expansion
The CFP is nearing a deal to make the tournament bigger. Bigger isn't better, and this one could really miss.www.espn.com

You obviously either cannot read or lack the ability to comprehend. Let me make this a bit clearer to you - ******* the bowls. This leads me to believe you are equally incompetent in a global sense. You are mad, upset, etc
It's obviously better for the sport. Bowls are dying, no one other than Beau will opt out of a playoff game, this make countless games more meaningful, top 10 matchups will always crush ratings...
I have no clue what you even see as an unintended consequence. You act as though this doesn't already exist in FCS.
I did and your "***** the bowls" comments proves me right because this destroys them in their current state--that alone makes it betterYou obviously either cannot read or lack the ability to comprehend. You have still yet to prove the expanding to 24 is "better". Have at it.
Nails it.
For those opposing, isn’t it a tad ironic that forever we’ve evaluated Teams strength of schedule based on their record vs Top 25 opponents? Also, for as long as I can remember, both AP and Coaches polls rank the top 25. Yet playoffs should only include the top 12?
