While pumping gas in Livingston MT, a smaller bowlegged man saw my OSU trailer hitch insert. He walked up and said Go Pokes and introduced himself as Alan Freed. Admittedly, I did not follow wrestling that closely during that period due of family things and work related attention. He mentioned John Smith as his coach and being an All American. We spent 15 minutes talking about Taylor, the Pokes and the new wrestling center. Alan mentioned he is currently running a wrestling club and training center in Belgrade, MT (just outside Bozeman). He said goodbye, walked off and and we climbed into my truck. While sitting there we looked him up on Wikipedia. This is what we read.

Holy buckets Alan was an absolute stud wrestler (1991-1994), student athlete (three time academic All American) and he is certainly great guy, Alan was instrumental on the team that won John his first NCAA team championship.

My wife and I sensed he might be on the down and out right now. Just his body language and appearance. Maybe needing to be brought home and recognized by Cowboy Wrestling. I am reaching out to Reece to mention that very thing. Hope he can engage Taylor and John to welcome him back.

He was a stud. From Ohio and 3 time finalist (I think) and champ as a senior. Stuck around for the probation year when he could have gone somewhere else and likely won a championship as a junior. Great Cowboy!
