Northwestern takes on Illinois State at Doug Collins Court in their first exhibition. The game will tip at 4 pm CT and be on WGN Radio, I don't think it's televised. I am in the building and will be live tweeting.
Injured but they didn't say exactly what it is on the radio broadcast. At the open practice on Monday he was dressed and participated in the shooting drill at the end but not the scrimmages. I believe Collins said he was hoping he'd be ready for the opener if not shortly after that. What’s up with Colin Smith? Is he injured? I assumed he’d start or be one of the first guys off the bench.
Not good but I do think ISU is a solid team. They went to the NIT final last year and are the preseason # 2 in the MVC.I know it's an exhibition game but losing to ISU is no bueno
Agreed, but I need to see Gill do it against high major competition. The consensus on him was that he wasn’t a high major player. So I’d feel much better seeing him perform against high major talent.I'll withhold judgment unless they get blown out of the gym against Iowa State, but -9 on offensive rebounds against a mid-major does not bode well for conference play. I think they'll clean up the turnovers though.
I will say it is good to see Gill looking like he will be a decent contributor this year. Hopefully that convinces guys that sticking with the program pays off long term.
Yeah. Sort of sad that we’d have to reestablish that expectation. It’s Year 14.Rebounding is part instinct, part ability, but a lot heart and effort. I expect Collins to coach this group hard about the latter.
