My room mate was a punter on the team in the early 90's. After the bowl game versus Tennessee, I asked him what Paterno said at halftime to fire up the team and motivate them to blow out Tennessee in the second half. He told me Paterno walked into the locker room, said 'they're playing really good offense out there', then proceeded to walk into his office and they didn't see him again until they were on the field for the second half.

So the feedback from Manning and Rodgers checks.

Guys you only have so many speeches....I once put my hand through a glass pane in a door in the locker room at half time. Lucky I didn't bleed to death or at least miss the second half with a trip to the emergency room. Ended up there after the game and (it was 1978) workman's compensation paid the bill.
I was 28 and learned to be a bit more discreet with my halftime rants. These college athletes today are probably on their phones with agents at halftime.
