This entire thread is stupid

we suck

they suck

neither fanbase should be saying anything

with that said ….

History has shown that this will likely be the only Syracuse related thread on this board. It will be active for a week or so. Contain less than 100 posts and then die out .

Theirs?

decades long with several thousand pages.

their fanbase is truly obsessed with all things Rutgers

it’s sad

I can honestly tell you that outside of this thread - it never even occurred to me to think about Syracuse football .

Know Rival lists Syracuse as our 3rd biggest rival behind Penn State and Maryland. I would actually think Syracuse is above Maryland if we still played every year. This is based on an advanced poll of each team’s fans and how they score their hatred 1-10. Anyone can take the survey:

Schiano specifically targeted their program and said as much. Then he started beating them. They’ve never recovered. Now we are so in their head they have a more than a decade long running thread on us. Psychotic.

Ah, the old days. Will never forget, (remember when this used to happen?) the STs blocked a FG attempt and were returning it down the Syracuse sideline for a TD. As they ran past the HC, you could clearly his lips as he said "Every f****** year".

Thinking about Syracuse is a sad place to be

New York is a sad place to be - for football.
Schools are dropping football all over.
Some are combining with other schools and some are trying 8-man.
America families left NYS and foreigner borns were catered too
Then there's the concussion hysteria that's still operating in the medicated suburbs
Big push to have ladies touch football inserted (not an accident)
SU used to recruit a lot of the suburbs and exurbs

A USA TODAY analysis suggests that participation numbers in the Empire State are on the decline, as statewide participation has dropped just under 33% since 2008 — from 38,354 to 25,874 in 2024. That comes despite New York gaining roughly 400,000 in population during that same time.

"YONKERS, New York (WABC) -- The city of Yonkers may have eight high schools, but the number of football teams is now down to two.
Yonkers high school football teams merge due to dwindling participation"

"Long Island high school football players are down 30% in a decade. Here's why."

In 2+ seasons as a head coach, Fran has accomplished the following...
  • finished a season ranked in top 20
  • 3 or 4 top 25 victories
  • a 10 win season
  • wins (regular season) over blue bloods Miami and Clemson

Somehow we haven't accomplished anything close in the past 20 years combined. But the OP is correct in that Cuse appears to be floundering -- and we can enjoy!!!

Long Island football is poor. Very few good players as parents won’t allow kids to play. Many concentrate on basketball or Lacrosse.

Yeah, it's amazing what can happen when Kyle McCord transfers down from Ohio State to an ACC program like Syracuse. An outstanding QB can paper over a lot of faults with your offense. Cuse has returned to their level, as we can all see.

Yes well that's the problem with concussion hysteria. They used to have different levels of head impact but it was made into one. A motorcycle rider knocked unconscious from bouncing his head off the pavement and a girl hit with a volleyball became the same concern. We had a local school with 1100 students and 100 were on concussion protocol which was ridiculous.

The main "study" used to start the hysteria only involved a few dead NFL players and it was never peer reviewed but was taken straight to media. Excessive drug and alcohol use as well as sugar consumption could cause same proteins blamed for neurological damage. Junior Seau was big drug/alcohol abuser but he became the face of concisions. Sports injury research associations issued statements that high school football was never shown to be a serious risk

I am 100% certain the concussion thing was hyped-up on purpose. There are now millions being sought for "concussion" issues. There are medical people now hyping "tests" they can do on a living person. I know exactly how easy it is to market Americans into grabbing their ankles using bogus studies. I am also sure that the factions who hate football as examples of "masculine hegemony" want football gone. Of course now girl's flag football is on the rise while boys tackle football ends. I feel bad for boys with such lame parents (and its white moms making sons quit football while dads do zip.).

Or, you know ... not that at all:

Eleven-player football registered a 1.4 percent increase with another 14,128 participants and now stands at 1,043,716 – by far the most popular sport for boys or girls. The sport is continuing to rebound from the pandemic and posted its highest mark since the 2016-17 season.

Measuring football participation increases since the pandemic is not an accurate way to measure anything. Plus I specified New York. Girls football is up and boys is down in NY and other northeastern states. Rural states still play football, southern states still play football, traditional states still play football. If a state still knows what boys are then there is an excellent chance they still play football.

Dwindling rosters force 5 Massachusetts high school football teams to forfeit games

A growing number of Massachusetts high schools have been forced to forfeit football games in recent weeks, with many citing dwindling rosters and player safety concerns as participation in the sport continues to decline across the state.

But viewed from a wider lens, high school football is in steep, steady decline. Participation has fallen 17 percent since 2006, when more than 1.1 million boys played the sport, a larger decline than any of the other top 10 most popular boys’ sports. Data in the sprawling and unregulated youth sports industry is less reliable, but regular participation in tackle football among kids ages 6 to 12 fell 13 percent from 2019 to 2022, according to annual survey data from the Sports and Fitness Industry Association (SFIA).

“There seems to be a very disturbing possibility,” said Andrew M. Lindner, associate professor of sociology at Skidmore College who has studied the demographics of football participation, “that who your dad voted for [in the presidential election] could influence your risk for a very serious [football-related] ailment or injury.”
