They lose to Miami and they should be out of the playoffs. But you just know the media ND a$$lickers will vote them into the Top #12. The rest of their schedule is Charmin soft. They can hopefully then decline another bowl

Freeman has posted a 44-11 regular-season record while in charge of the Irish, and of those 44 wins, a whopping five have come against teams that finished the season ranked. Two of those five ranked opponents happened to be service academies.

Looking ahead at the remainder of Notre Dame's regular season slate, the Irish play host to No. 1 Miami on Nov. 7 and No. 23 SMU two weeks later.

Things will fall into place as they always do, but it's relatively safe to assume that if the Irish finish the year at 10-2, they will punch a ticket into the College Football Playoff.

If Notre Dame finishes inside the Top 12 in the final CFB Playoff rankings, it automatically qualifies for the Playoff no matter the teams or resumes in a similar position.

It will really be sick if they are 10-2 and make the playoff with that schedule.

They are a name brand that will have the playoff committee bend over backwards to include them .
Miami playing the imitation Irish in South Bend could let the wind out of the Hurricanes and the only other threat (SMU)to beat them is a Notre Dame Dame home game

Their schedule is a joke. Call Indiana and set up home and home.
Indiana , under Cignetti ,requested the cancellation of its scheduled future home-and-home football series against the imitation Irish for the 2030 and 2031 seasons that was set up when the previous HC (Tom Allen) was there

If Notre Dame loses at home to Miami and finishes at 10-2, I’m not sure they would make the playoff. They wouldn’t have a top win with SMU probably not ending up in the top 25. There could be numerous 10-2 teams from the SEC, B1G, Big 12. The current AP poll doesn’t mean much now. When the Playoff Committee starts their rankings in Nov, strength of schedule will be a significant factor. Obviously what happens with all the other top teams will impact whether ND would get in at 10-2. However, it isn’t a stretch to think 11 teams from the power 4 conferences plus the top non power conf team could be ranked higher.

Didn't they miss the playoff last year going 10-2? Why does everyone think they are so coddled? If they lose to Miami and don't have a top 25 win I could see them missing it again.

I don’t understand why they are still such a name brand. Their glory days ended 20 somewhat years ago. Maybe even more Teams like Bama, LSU, Georgia, Ohio st and Texas have been far more successful in the 2000’s so why does anyone still follow Notre Dame ? Just cause they’re the Irish ?

I found this and it's trying to make sure that doesn't happen again
>The Notre Dame Guarantee: Starting with the 2026 season, Notre Dame is automatically assured a playoff spot if they finish ranked in the top 12 of the final College Football Playoff rankings.>
I expect a 2 loss " imitation" Irish program will be ranked in the top 12.

That's the only sensible rule in the entire CFP.
If you are ranked Top 12 in a 12 team playoff - you should be guaranteed a berth.

Want to complain about the ranking process? Sure. Have at it.
But this rule makes sense.

OT? What does this have to do with Rutgers? Is ND going to steal Rutgers' spot in the CFP?
Yes they will,
And adding insult to injury their Leprechaun might steal Rutgers pot of gold safely tucked away in the meadow that will eventually become Rutgers New Field House .after Greg earns his 200th victory as the RU FB HC

Did a google search and seems like:
This is the reason that rule was made

>Notre Dame finished the 2025–26 college football season ranked No. 11 in the final College Football Playoff (CFP) rankings and No. 10 in the final Associated Press (AP) Top 25<

Exactly.

Imagine Rutgers was ranked #11 and got bumped because #20 Tulane and #24 JMU got in.

There would 74 threads saying how the seeding process is broken and a Top 12 team shouldn't be left out.

Huh? How did that work out for them last year?

This means the 11th ranked team will almost surely be left out of the CFP if ND is #12. They should have guaranteed a top 11 ranked ND a spot instead. I hope ND finishes ranked 12th just for the uproar.

Same reason why people still refer to the cowboys as “America’a Team.” Old habits die hard, ND is still an iconic brand.

You're talking about last year, right? That rule was already slated to go into effect when ND got bumped. And if ND is ranked 12th, they'll get in at the likely expense of some other P4 team ranked higher, because the highest ranked G5 gets in, presumably ranked out of the top 12.

After this year it won’t matter anymore.

Most years all the P4 champs and highest G6 champ finish somewhere in the top 24.

Even in the rare occurrence someone got jumped it won’t be a double digit win team from the P4. Everyone who is very worthy of getting in will get in.

For this year, UNC continuing to improve and SMU doing well are what they need to boost their resume on top of the Miami game.

Garbage article from an Indiana guy....shocker. Of course it looks weak because they play an independent / partial ACC schedule. Looking at their schedule as a fan, I would rather play their schedule than ours. GS would never have the guts to play at BYU / Texas A&M (last year).

If our roster looked like that, I could see the possible interest or concern in scheduling a little differently.

Maybe one, and one only, what some might consider a marquee opponent. And only at Rutgers, no MetLife. Unless the Giants/Jets made it worth our while…$$$$ (bowl amount).
