IHSA confirms the opening round counts as a playoff game hosted for the home team when determining on who has hosted the least in the later rounds. Thoughts? Agree or disagree with this?

I don’t think this is a big deal.

The better seed will still have the advantage because home field is decided by who has hosted fewer games. If you had a bye, you did not host a game.

If both are the same, then the better seed gets to host.

That part’s fine, having the opening round count when it comes to the number of games hosted didn’t make much sense initially. Seems like it doesn’t have a big of an impact though
I think it could possibly impact the higher seeding teams in the quarterfinals and semifinals

Unless there is an upset in the first round.

Agreed. I didn’t understand why the opening round would count, but I’ve looked at a few scenarios in different classes and it doesn’t actually seem to have an impact that would make this year different from past years (as long as you only consider seeding and not the actual teams)
IMO, it should have been a clean slate to start R1 like previous years but it is what it is.

IMO "opening round" should have been played yesterday then have R1 start tomorrow night or Saturday like normal. No need for a Bye week and it would also eliminate the need for two games in August.

Please clarify something for me.

If Team A hosts a game this Saturday (10/24), then next weekend (10/30 or 31) is away at Team B and wins that game. If Team C had a BYE and plays home next weekend (10/20 or 31). Who is hosting the game betwen Team A and Team C the weekend of November 6th or 7th?

Team C would host as the higher seed as both Team A and C would have the same number of games hosted to that point (1)

The higher seed if they have both hosted the same amount of games.

Wednesday games haven't been a thing for over 30 years and no coach would ever go for it again. Get over it.

Provide a scenario in which this matters..
East St. Louis 4th seed vs Brother rice 8th seed

BR hosts the winner of SCN and McHenry
Then if Rice wins and Batavia wins Rice will host Batavia which means their 2nd home game
Assuming if Rice wins they would then go on road and play Normal Community (assuming North community also gets there)

Then
East St Louis hosts the winner of Elgin and Reavis
East St Louis wins then they would then host the winner of St Pats/Westinghouse which is very likely St Pats because I think St Pats wins the opening round and wins against Westinghouse but since St Pats hosted the opening round game, then that means both St Pats and East St Louis would have already hosted 1 game so then East St Louis would then host St Pats
Then if they win they would most likely host 5th seed Prospect

Then if BR wins at Normal
and
East St Louis beats Prospect then based on the rules East St Louis would need to go to BR for the semi finals since Brother Rice would have only played 2 home and 1 away (SCN/McHenry Round One, Batavia Round 2, and at Normal quarterfinals) while ESL would have played 3 home games (Round 1 Elgin/Reavis, Round 2 St Pats and Prospect quarterfinals)

Perhaps this is not necessarily what the IHSA intended but since it was never clarified in either the proposal or rule book language, they had to keep it this way for this year.

The language for determining postseason hosting states, “In subsequent rounds, the school that has hosted fewer times during the current playoff series hosts the game.”

I’m m all honesty, I know this isn’t a popular opinion, but it’s bc of the CPS programs.

The IHSA’s intent is for the opening round teams to be at a disadvantage of hosting games when they advance…which is right.

But having bad CPS teams with low seeds it throws things off.
