I kinda doubt it.
Pretty sure there is a KF quote saying as much. Unless they were saving face. Which is likely too. Edit ... Here's the quote

"We chose not to get active in the portal at that position [QB] intentionally. We made the assessment that what we have in our building right now and what we've recruited, we feel pretty good about. It's really going to get down to what happens between now and September and potentially, even into the season," Ferentz said.

completely unacceptable, Iowa’s inability to the throw ball past 7 yards is hard to fathom
Yes that is poor. You would think if the hawks could get Diaz, RVZ, and another receiver just 5 to 7 receptions a game or just a 66% completion percentage they could be in the top 50-60 in those rankings. You have to set a goal and do the things to achieve that goal. I dont know if the coaches set a goal for the passing game.

I am sure they want at least 4.5 yards per carry in the run game so that is suffering also.

It's a combination of Lester's play calling and the inaccuracy of his QBs. Iowa has had receivers running WIDE OPEN well down the field--including against Ohio State with Hank Brown at the controls--but the QBs have failed to make connections on far too many occasions. It's tremendously frustrating to watch, but imagine being one of the receivers . . .

That's CRIMINAL. You have DJV, Diaz, and RVZ.
Oh wait, but what about that one throw vs Mich.
Nevermind, all good.

Iowa qb’s have been late in their reads and throws which has killed the passing game. Heck was way too early on the pass to a wide open Diaz though. Pick your poison……check down Hank or hard throwing Heck missing wide open guys.

What I find interesting is they went out and brought in Gronowski last year, who ran for 16 TD's last year! And while statistically he wasn't great in the passing game with big numbers he did lead some late drives with both passing and running. 27 TD's overall for him and if he had been healthy the whole season probably would have passed for 15-17 TD's I'm guessing giving him over 30 as a runner and passer. We then decide that we don't really need that, that we have these 2 "pro style" QB's in house that can both help us win. We run a fair amount of RPO's with zero chance of either one of them keeping the ball, which is just absolutely ridiculous. I just don't understand our evaluation of what we're doing here.
