LET'S LET EDGY ANSWER - who would get home game in this scenario Rice vs ESL

I thought we'd go to STP bc the open round doesn't count
ESL is guaranteed to host the first and second rounds. If Prospect advances to play ESL in the quarterfinals, they’d also host Prospect. ESL would then be on the road for the semis, regardless of opponent.

Because the Opening round only counts for the Home team.

See above. That's what makes it so confusing.

All Home games count.

It's the only way the could make sure all the Bye Teams were at Home.
The opening round also counts for those teams who won despite being away. Using Nazareth as an example, they played at Shepard in the opening round, and play at Dunlap this week. If they win, they will host their second round game regardless of their opponent

Okay now I'm confused. It will make sense when it happens, but NOT before, at least until we get used to the new brackets. :ROFLMAO:

Agreed. It’s best to just take it week by week without the hypotheticals. Before last year, I’d have said that at least we know the championship game is played at ISU. Now we know even that’s not guaranteed

This seems pretty black and white right on the IHSA site under each bracket

Note: In the opening round, the higher seed hosts the game. In subsequent rounds, the school that has hosted fewer times during the current playoff series hosts the game. If both teams have hosted an equal number of times, the higher seed hosts.

If opening round did not count they legally would have had to include that provision in the statement above.

I’m curious why this is so difficult to understand, that you’d ask Edgy to waste his time explaining something that couldn’t be more clear
Because I want to know what Edgy thinks - he would know the inside out of the rule correct?

But the opening round does count, so why the confusion? That’s been established already

Because a lot of guys I know are saying opposite so figured Edgy can put this to rest

I believe this was posted in another thread and not on this one. The IHSA posted this as a clarification which is why I had questioned the confusion. I figured they had answered the question with their post

So in conclusion.... where will ESL vs BR take place? Hypothetically
Highest probability is it would be at BR. If you’re an ESL fan you’d hope Edwardsville upsets Normal and loses to Kenwood/Glenbard East. Prospect losing in the second round or quarterfinal would also guarantee an ESL/BR game being played at ESL

ESL vs. Pats will be at ESL. Both teams would have hosted 1 game
ESL vs. Prospect will depend on Zion Benton vs. Guilford Winner. If Guilford wins then ESL will host Prospect as both teams will have had 2 home games and ESL is better seed
ESL vs. BR. If Guilford beats ZB and everything plays to the seeds in the top half of the bracket this game will be at BR as ESL will have 3 home games and BR will have 2 and 1 road game at Normal. If Kenwood were to upset Normal then that would make it an ESL home game vs. BR

If ESL vs Prospect happens, Kenwood beating Normal would guarantee the game is at BR. Kenwood would be the host team in a Kenwood vs BR game, meaning BR will have hosted 2 games to ESL’s 3

Yes you're correct, so the only way the game is at ESL is if ZB beats Guilford or if Edwardsville beats Normal and then loses to Kenwood

After looking more closely, the ZB Guilford game doesn't matter since ZB was home in the opening round so the only way that BR will be at ESL is if the Edwardsville Kenwood match up happens and Kenwood wins

I took it as simply trying to understand how it all works. Not a specific ESL vs BR thing.
Ditto - plus frankly I don't want to f'ing fly to STL or drive down to ESL - and I'm all for playing EST at home rather than on the road. No disrespect to anyone out there.

Then don't if it happens.
To create a thread to discuss the possibility IS disrespect and YOU know it. True champions don't worry about where you play the game at. Congrats on being Disrespectful for all teams competing.

I don't know, we are just fans and part of the beauty of being a fan is you can look ahead. Is that really being disrespectful? I guess how you word it matters.

Heck, there were schools last weekend that held players out (banged up) and I'd bet didn't really focus a ton on that weeks opponent and were looking ahead at the R1 matchup.

Wow we have the fan police. I started the thread because there was talk about Rice having to go to ESL after going on road to Normal and having to play a team twice on road - very far - which yes affects a lot of Rice fans and their families. So I have to laugh at how something this small gets so far up your bung
