I mean Iowa didn’t deserve to win no matter way you look at it and it’s not like they got blown out but to have them drop 11 spots? That’s just crazy… Iowa has to be revved up for this Badger game as there’s so much on the line as it’s the 100th all time meeting of the 2 teams and Iowa could tie the series up with a W… I think the Hawks come out to play as mad hornets 🐝! They need this game and every other that remains and I think the Hawks will come out resilient and a beatdown … won’t be predicting the score but I love our chances

GOOOOOOOOOOOOO HAWKS!

We don't deserve to be ranked, but you're right. The pressure is off Kirk and therefore the team. We don't have to worry about trying to make the playoffnor BTCG anymore and the rankings now are essentially window dressing with no added expectations on our end, so that means they should play looser, especially at home, this weekend.

So we got that going for us, which is nice!................🫠

If Iowa can run the table 5 game winning streak they will definitely be considered… lots of things can happen and a 10-2 Iowa team could really steal the show. I am not predicting it but it could very well happen. I agree, they will play looser and Heck needs to start and finish this game as its high stakes but high reward type thing … I do have confidence as the Hawks always play great towards the end of the season… I refuse to give up on them that’s for sure as they still control their own destiny imho

Just a guess, but I think a lot of voters saw 10 points against an unranked team and said, yep it is the same old same old with Iowa and just plummeted the ranking.

In general, a road loss to an unranked but non-horrible team that needed a field goal with no time on the clock shouldn’t drop you 11 spots in the polls. There’s a lot of precedence for this just in games Iowa was involved in.

In 2016, Michigan comes into Kinnick Stadium at #2 in the AP poll, #3 in the Coaches poll. Iowa was unranked with a 5-4 record. Iowa kicks a field goal with no time left on the clock to win the game 14-13. The next week Michigan is ranked #4 in both polls.

2008 unranked Iowa beats AP #3 Penn State on a field goal in Kinnick Stadium with no time left. Penn State drops only 4 spots the following week.

Heck, in 2017 after unranked Iowa beat the absolute crap out of OSU in Kinnick Stadium, they only dropped 8 spots in the polls.

Texas tech lost to unranked Cincy by 13...dropped 5 spots.
Tennessee lost to unranked South Carolina by 3 and dropped 5 spots.
Iowa loses to unranked but above .500 minny by 3 points..drop 11 spots.

Southern teams get a pass when they lose..because it's to another southern team.
Bias is obvious.

This. It's a product of the Iowa style. People never think Iowa is as good as its record... The whole fake id thing

I think this is spot on. It's all perception IMO. It's been a very long time since Iowa has done anything to prove that they're a legit Top 10-15 team, so I don't blame the pollsters for reacting accordingly to that loss. Back to more familiar territory as to what's been more the norm - ranking in the 20s or unranked but receiving votes. Until Iowa proves otherwise, it's hard to say much.

Dropping 11 spots is a bit much. I can’t imagine an SEC team in similar circumstances would drop as far. Same goes for Notre Dame.
An example would be Arkansas beating say Florida, 13-10.

Florida probably wouldn't drop 11 spots in the voting.

Arkansas would probably be receiving votes despite clearly being a terrible team.
