All just speculation but I think our secret weapon here is Braun - a good dude with a decent football IQ who gives Chip the space he's earned at a school where fans will probably never, ever call for his head even if he wants to coach here til the day he dies. On the flipside, I doubt modesty and "staying in his lane" are among Dan Lanning's strong suits. Unless Chip has his own special reasons for wanting to get back to Eugene, I doubt Oregon is a suitor we need to worry about.Salary-wise Chip is covered by the Raiders buyout next year, so he can't be "bought off"; though I guess we'll see what happens.
He was always going to end up in high demand given he's a legit star coordinator.
I'd love it if we can keep him here at least a couple of years. The setup here is probably as ideal as he'll find in CFB. Smart, high talent players and potentially with good enough NIL/revenue share to compete for playoff spots.

Rocky Long at New Mexico.Has there ever been a case of a HC going back to where they were HC to be a coordinator?
He literally had this at Ohio State. And with his track record he’ll have it at basically any school outside of places like LSU where the coach is a famous offensive play caller. That's a key factor in keeping Chip here.
Nobody else is going to let him be "HC of the offense" in terms of the total freedom/control he has here I'd think, and yeah he could be our OC for the next 15 years if he wanted.
Fans are never going to chase him off even if we have a rough year or two or three on offense; injuries happen and such; it's just obvious how good of a OC he is.
Pressure at Ohio State is different. He (and Day) got hammered for their gameplan against Michigan the year he was there. He literally had this at Ohio State. And with his track record he’ll have it at basically any school outside of places like LSU where the coach is a famous offensive play caller.
I wouldn’t be shocked if he was here for a couple years but I also wouldn’t be shocked if he leaves to go to Texas or some place with future NFL players.
Again, all just speculation from our perspective. Chip may be at a point in his career where he likes being a well-paid coordinator at a program that won't fire him and/or his staff on a whim, where boosters aren't making him justify his offensive formations to them before they write their checks, and where he will be almost unconditionally held in high esteem.Pressure at Ohio State is different. And he'd be at the whim of one bad season at any powerhouse.
I wouldn't be shocked if he leaves quickly either given he's never stayed in one place a long time. Just think that we can offer him a uniquely less pressurized situation if he seeks that.
He has a longtime partner who would probably prefer Chicago to Eugene or most other placesPressure at Ohio State is different. He (and Day) got hammered for their gameplan against Michigan the year he was there.

Yeah, the good thing is, we're finding success quickly. He's able to get smart/talented players to run his system here and potentially can compete at a high level.Again, all just speculation from our perspective. Or he could feel like he has unfinished business in Eugene, or that he still has more to prove in the NFL, or despite being a multi-millionaire, wants to go where the money takes him.
But I guess if we stopped speculating on this, we'd put message boards out of business...
We had some good receivers and good backs, and we brought in a new/quality OC and QB. That's all it takes.Yeah, the good thing is, we're finding success quickly. He's able to get smart/talented players to run his system here and potentially can compete at a high level.
I'm flat out stunned at how quickly this offense got going; I thought this would be a 2-3 year building project.
Instead, we might have the best offense in the conference in year 1.
Braun is a proven winner that is hungry to take his winning to the next level. He was the perfect replacement for Fitz, who was a bit too comfy after his last bowl victory with Thorson, and seemed to lose thatAll just speculation but I think our secret weapon here is Braun - a good dude with a decent football IQ who gives Chip the space he's earned at a school where fans will probably never, ever call for his head even if he wants to coach here til the day he dies. I think he said two years as his commitment and he seems to be a man who will keep his promise. I think next season he will evaluate how things are but I also think things are going better than he had hoped. Braun has kept his promises to Chip of letting Chip do what he believes is best for the offense. What has been the most positive is the players are listening to him and doing what he says. It has not been perfect and the players are not the best at all the positions but it has proven his way of running an offense as a team changer. So I think his only choice after two years is to stay at NU or retire from football. I think he won’t retire so he will stay at NU until he will retire.I think Chip said he would come for two years and he brought a pack of excellent assistants who he likes to work with, with him. His arraignment with he Raiders allows him to be a Cat at a bargain price which I think he parlayed into great salaries for his assistants. He said two years, he is having fun, he is not a jerk so he is not going to rat out his friends. He is going to stay two years.
After two years, who knows. He is a bit of a rolling stone, a thing he can get away with because he's good at what he does, so maybe two years is the limit. OTOH, Lots of guys settle down eventually, why not him.
Age is the other factor I was going to mention. Not saying this is the case but he is 63. Who knows, he might wanna Hankwitz it. Age 63 unless he has more vim and vigor than I thought, what would he agree to go do? Rebuild Rutgers? Maryland? Run around recruiting when he was said to hate it 20 years ago? Doubt it. I bet he wants to earn a pretty penny, never move again, and in a few seasons of drawing up plays (which is something he seems to love) chill with a gin and tonic on the lake. Hang out with Hankwitz and talk about the good old days. Barnett can bring a six pack.
