I’m not trying to throw shade, but if Teag’s last name was not Sanderson, would you be putting him above any other Sophomores in the class? At S32, he went 2-2 and didn’t face any of the top guys.
Anytime an upper weight is bronze or higher at PIAA AAA as a freshman, there's a lot to be excited about as a prospect.

Ha ha ha! You guys must know him too. We were teammates at Mercersburg Academy way back in the late sixties and still keep in touch. Both Zain and Nico were in his classes. I think he’s either retired now or very close to it.

He retired from PSU on June 30 of this year. He’s now listed in the Finance department directory as an emeritus professor.

Thanks for the link Tom. The article doesn’t mention that he is also a big Penn State wrestling fan and supporter! 👍

To be completely fair about this: AAA 172 was extremely weak after the 2 state finalists. The guy Teag beat for 3rd was a 2025 district DNP.

He did well, but it wasn't nearly the path Hutcherson faced a year earlier, ot the path Waters faced a few years earlier.

I'm more interested in his clear, tangible improvement within the season. That doesn't happen with freshmen much, and especially at upper weights.

Last name aside, he's a guy you want on the team. He'll continue to improve, and let's see where it goes.

No shade taken. I don't think some people realize how tough it is to win at the 175lb-190lb range as a freshman. I've seen it happen with Hutcherson and now Teag. Teag was 3rd as 9th grader at PA States and I'll take him to win it this year. Hutcherson was 5th as a 9th grader and won it his soph year. @WillieTheBrain talks about it a lot on his podcast. It is hard for 9th/10th graders to win at upper weights. You can even take it back to kids like Jim Mastny, Elijah Brown, Mirasolas and I'm sure i am missing more. Simple, the maturity level just is not there yet. With that said, I would bet the house that Teag will be one of if not the top upper weight by the time his Jr and Senior years.

Especially considering his Dad said he's going to start wrestling with him more.

It’s too bad that while he’s in the area he won’t be able to cross the county line into Centre County and stop by Sam’s Furniture (may it rest in peace). I can still hear the song from Sam’s commercial rattling around my head.
And too bad Fred Diehl isn't around to sell him a lemon! :devilish:
