This is why you buy a QB

Brown and Jeremy 2nd year with Lester and they have already reached their low ceiling.

You don’t have a QB you have no chance to compete for a playoff birth playing in the big 10
Have to agree with you on that … they need to get some serious shopping done in the portal in the offseason

I would just like to know who decided Hank Brown was worth more than $1 million dollars. Hecklinski doesn’t even earn $300k.

Some fans were hoping that the QB competition was a case of both men being good. Others (myself included) feared it was because both were mediocre/bad, and neither was able to separate from the other.

Sadly, it appears the second scenario was the case.
^This.

I said from the beginning if Iowa’s transfer portal plan for 2026 didn’t include an upgrade at quarterback the season would likely not produce a playoff appearance.

Iowa doesn’t need an elite quarterback to be successful, but there’s a reason teams with all-conference or all-American caliber quarterbacks didn’t have an open competition at quarterback heading into the first game of the season.

$1 or $2 million for a better than we have now would be worth it I say for next year.

Remember they touch the ball on every offensive play.
Someone just said Hank costs $1M. It doesn’t get you what it used to lol

Have you seen the QB play for Michigan and Indiana this season? Neither of those teams has one decent QB, which is why their game ended in regulation at 6-6. LOL

Indiana did not complete ONE single pass in the second half yesterday until OT. The Minnesota QB isn't very good. The backup at Washington looked good vs. Iowa. I haven't seen much great QB play anywhere this season. Where have all the great QBs gone?
How many games did Indiana's and Michigan's defenses give up 38+ points this year, like Minnesota has done twice?

Yeah, stupid Hayden got cancer and wasn’t smart enough to figure out how to hide in the Big Ten West. 🙄
I don't have a bad word to say about Hayden.

Was only delegitimizing Sooner's point.

And Iowa, under KF, was a very good program long before the big ten west. That's just a ridiculous thing to say

I don’t love the idea of giving Ferentz a big budget to find a QB.

For instance, the Gopher QB (Lindsey) is a 6’ 5” statue with a big arm. Some have projected him to be a first round QB. Ferentz would LOVE him. Iowa could try to get someone like him for $4M+, leaving less funds for the OL, WRs, RBs, etc. Without sufficient talent around the QB, we probably have similar passing results and worse rushing results - basically what the Minnesota offense looks like this year. Lindsey’s production is about the same as Iowa’s QBs this year.

I’d rather invest in the OL, RB, and then get a cheaper QB like a Brendan Sullivan who is a threat in the running game. If we had an elite OL, elite RB, and a cheap / mobile QB, we could field an offense that makes Iowa a contender.

I have much more faith in Iowa spending their way to getting an elite OL and RB than I do them spending their way into fixing a passing game that’s been broken for 6 years.

OP is correct. Lester and Kirk made huge mistake by not having a B1G level QB on this years team. Going to cost us a shot at the playoff once again.
Neither of these two can be your starter next year.

That's what they did this year, minus the mobile QB because mobile QB = more turnovers. They still focus on developing OLs rather than shopping for them. They shelled out probably big money for an FCS (!!!) running back who is now playing hurt. If this is how that strategy is going to work out, they should go back to the drawing board on offensive recruitment.

Pretty big difference between 1 or 2 million, and 1 or 2 million MORE. People act like we aren't paying for QB's now. I have no idea what the current QB's are getting, but reportedly we paid MG about 1.5 million.

If Iowa's going to compete in this NIL world of college football, where they will likely be perpetually in the bottom half of the B1G in $ to spend on a roster, then they are going to have to be REALLY GOOD at $ management, which they have been OK at so far. I'm convinced that they can field a solid team every season and compete with the big boys once in a while, but they need to spend their $ wisely and not have any big misses, while continuing to develop the positions they have traditionally developed well.

Iowa overpaid for a G6-level QB (HB making ~$1M from what I've heard) and TL hasn't developed him worth a sh*t. Those are the types of mistakes that put us in the position that we are in; just can't have those types of misses. As far as QB goes, Iowa needs to knock it out of the park with their next portal addition and/or Bessinger needs to develop into the QB he's advertised to become.

The 2 qbs we play this year are keeping Bessenger's spot warm while he learns the offense. The big question is, why wait till next year if we take another loss?
Let's say we lose to Wisconsin. Then let's get the future qb some much needed experience.

MGrono was a totally proven QB and winner (with a slightly bad right shoulder) so that is why. I hope the hawks didnt spend even $500K for either Hank or Heck because they were totally unproven. They have shown good, really good, and bad so far this season so maybe $300K is enough and if they transfer so be it, then Sully and Bess

There is that way of looking at it BUT if you lose to Wisky and the remaining 4 games then you record is WHAT? Did you calculate that, the record would be 5-7. I dont think you want that.

jNW is pretty good but they needed a couple good comebacks to win some games and they havent played anyone except wisky is Good but what they beat a crappy penn st team and USC is not very good.

Wisky got handled easily by ND. And none of their wins are special.

The hawks can beat all 5 teams but they can lose 2 more or even 5 more so I wouldnt play Sully or Bess unless it is a wipeout one way or another

Not a huge reach to imagine KFz saying/thinking something like "Quarterback is no more important than any other position". There-in lies the problem
