As Iowa fans we got a taste of what Nebraska deals with a on a weekly basis against Minnesota. Do we think Nebraska decides to cancel their program?!? It might be time.
They got their hearts torn out again, figuratively of course, but that was one blitz too many leaving your safety to cover that WR from 15 yards away.

And then the pick 6, i love it

They are just so undisciplined and emotional. They were up 7 to 3, with a first and goal from the 5. Unorganized offensively by Rhule and Dana they get a delay of game, which leads to Colandrea taking a terrible sack to lose 15 yards on third down, which leads to their kicker missing a 36 yarder. Can’t make this stuff up.

Agreed. They get way too hyped over big plays early in the game. Calm the f down until you seal the game. How many chokes will it take to understand this lesson?

no, you cannot make this stuff up.

If you were capable of making this stuff up, you would be a screenwriter for Hollywood, specializing in football/sports movies.

I think this is further evidence a deal with Satan was made in the 90s. The time has come to reap the harvest.
I think Nebby is still dealing with God’s judgement post them firing Solich for going 9-3 three years in a row….Nebby lost their appeal after their AD commented post-Iowa game (a game Nebby won) that Nebby beating Iowa was not their standard for successful football. God’s justice is swift and final……Nebby is hoping it doesn’t last forever.

Can I imagine it? What are you talking about? It's just about the most fun I have watching football every weekend. You simply can't imagine how they're going to give the next game away and then they somehow find a way. Last night might have been the most entertaining collapse I've seen my entire life.

I can't wait to see what they come up with next weekend. It's must-see TV!

It seems to be a pattern. The last four or five games of the season Nowledge U trips over their own shoelaces. The last four or five games of the season Iowa is playing their best football.
Exactly…. They are high and mighty and then the shoe falls off and things go to HELL… heads get too big and no teamwork absolutely no discipline whatsoever….

I've never seen anything like it. I'd love to see a stat on how many come from ahead losses in Q4 that they have in the last decade.
So, I had AI give it try. Seems low.

From Co-Pilot:
I started the manual audit using a source that reviewed all 22 one-score losses of the Scott Frost era and identified the latest Nebraska lead in each game. [sportingnews.com]
From that audit, these losses clearly qualify as Nebraska being ahead late enough that the lead carried into the 4th quarter or was held during the 4th quarter:
SeasonOpponentLatest Nebraska Lead
2018ColoradoLed 28-27 with 1:14 remaining [sportingnews.com]
2018NorthwesternLed 31-24 with 17 seconds remaining [sportingnews.com]
2019ColoradoLed 31-24 with 54 seconds remaining [sportingnews.com]
2019PurdueLed 27-24 with 1:14 remaining [sportingnews.com]
2020IowaLed 20-13 late in the 3rd quarter and lost 26-20 [sportingnews.com]
2021Michigan StateLed 20-13 with 4:01 remaining [sportingnews.com]
2021IowaLed 21-6 before the 4th quarter collapse [sports.yahoo.com]
2022NorthwesternLed 28-17 and lost 31-28 [sports.yahoo.com]
2024IllinoisBlew a 4th-quarter lead [thescore.com]
2024Ohio StateBlew a 4th-quarter lead [thescore.com]
2024IowaBlew a 4th-quarter lead [thescore.com]
2025USCBlew a 4th-quarter lead [thescore.com]
2026IndianaLed 17-6 in the 4th quarter and lost [thescore.com]
2026OregonLed 14-6 in the 4th quarter and lost [thescore.com]
2026WashingtonLed in the 4th quarter and lost [huskercorner.com]
That gives 15 documented cases already. [sportingnews.com], [sports.yahoo.com], [sports.yahoo.com], [thescore.com], [huskercorner.com]
My confidence is now much higher that the true answer for the last ten seasons is about 15, possibly a little higher depending on exactly how you define "ahead in the 4th quarter" (leading at any point in the quarter vs. leading when the quarter started).
Based on the evidence gathered so far, 15 is the best-supported count I've found.

Asked Co-Pilot about losses in one score losses in the last ten years,

Using the season-by-season one-score records from CFBTrack, Nebraska's record in games decided by 8 points or fewer from 2017 through 2026 is: [cfbtrack.com]
SeasonRecord
20172-3
20181-5
20192-4
20202-3
20210-8
20222-5
20231-5
20242-5
20254-2
2026*0-2
Total16-42

So over the last 10 seasons (2017-2026), Nebraska is 16-42 in one-score games, a winning percentage of 27.6%. [cfbtrack.com]
A few striking points:
  • Nebraska went 0-8 in one-score games in 2021. [cfbtrack.com]
  • From 2021 through 2024, Nebraska was just 5-23 in one-score games. Adding the yearly records (0-8, 2-5, 1-5, 2-5) yields that result. [cfbtrack.com]
  • The best recent season in close games was 2025, when the Huskers went 4-2. [cfbtrack.com]
For perspective, a roughly average team would be expected to be close to .500 in one-score games over a decade. Nebraska's 16-42 mark is one of the reasons their record over the last decade has been so much worse than many of their statistical profiles suggested.

What is Kirk Ferentz record in one score games in the last decade?

I found a source that tracks one-score records (games decided by 8 points or fewer) by season. For the last 10 seasons (2017-2026), Kirk Ferentz's Iowa Hawkeyes have been approximately:
SeasonOne-Score Record
20174-2
20184-1
20194-1
20202-1
20214-3
20225-3
20238-2
20242-3
20257-4
2026*3-2
Total: 43-22 (.662)
(*2026 through games completed as of the current season.) These figures are derived from the season results and one-score-game tracking databases.jhowell+1
That compares very favorably with Nebraska's 16-42 (.276) mark in one-score games over the same decade.cfbtrack
So the gap is roughly:
  • Iowa: 66% winning percentage in one-score games.jhowell+1
  • Nebraska: 28% winning percentage in one-score games.cfbtrack
Over 65 one-score games, that difference amounts to roughly 27 more wins for Iowa than Nebraska would have produced at Nebraska's close-game rate. Based on your earlier question about fourth-quarter leads, this is one of the defining differences between the Ferentz and Nebraska programs of the last decade. Iowa has consistently found ways to finish close games, while Nebraska has consistently found ways to lose them.

Stay humble
^This.

Did Minnesota not happen just last week?

Iowa is capable of beating anyone in the Big Ten, but they are also capable of losing to anyone in the Big Ten. The good news is the Minnesota loss is a little more palatable in that Minny isn’t a chump team this year and Iowa had to f#ck up royally time and time again (including your f#cking DB lining up offsides on 4th and goal) just for the Rodents to squeak out a win.

Iowa needs to win out, which includes going on the road and beating a decent NW squad. Iowa has all the tools now to finish 10-2 and make a CFP appearance. One game at a time. No excuses. No “we gotta clean a few things up” in November. The turd game is out of the way. The stakes are too high. Just. Win. Baby.

Btw, who would have thought that going into November Ohio State and Iowa would have the same record? Wisconsin. USC. Indiana. Minnesota. Iowa. Ohio State. Any given Saturday. Highs and lows from one week to the next. Just. Win. Baby.

A few things…

The broadcast wouldn’t show it, but after Washington’s pick 6 to go up 17-7, Nebraska fans started throwing things on the field. So much so the broadcasters commented on it but wouldn’t show it, and play was stopped for a minute or so.

Nebraska had the onside kick there for the taking at the end. Ball was touched by Washington and rolled around another few seconds before anyone went for it. Two Nebraska players were right there.

AND HERE’s THE BIG ONE…

Jimmy Rogers at Iowa State got his first win against a Top 25 team in his first season. Matt Rhule has ZERO in 4 seasons at Nebraska. Ouch.

Seems like it's been a wild and wacky college football season so far. One could argue that major polls don't start until after week six, but fans want polls. Hell, they want "way too early" polls in the spring.

Here is some friendly advice to our neighbors from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln; stop wearing the colors of your biggest rival. It makes you look like Iowa State.
I know wearing black is cool, especially on Halloween, but you should have thought of that in the 1890s. Hey, red is kinda cool too, I guess. Be happy with what you’ve got.

Their helmets were actually really cool compared to what they usually wear. The field looked cool too.

We dont know what goes on behind locker room and closed doors at Nebby. Scott Frost blamed everyone but himself in the media and that burns players. Several other of their coaches were vacant, overbearing and crude like Pelini. Kirk really likes his players and promotes them and wants them to succeed and gives kudos to them so I think the difference is there for everyone to see

They should have been garbed in black jerseys and orange helmets. That's how you win on Halloween, at least in Lincoln NE.

Their arrogance never resembles the actual results on the field.

And now they're stuck with another year from Colandrea while that 5* QB coming in ponders where to transfer in two years.

Good entertainment.
They must be eating their own over there. Football is all they got. An ag school that may be pretty good, or not.

Actually it was Shawn Eichorst who fired Bob Pelini and what is hilarious, is that he is now the AD at Wisconsin. I wish an Iowa media corespondent would have asked him after Iowa’s Win if Wisconsin 'is good enough in the games that mattered against championship-quality caliber opponents'. LMAO!
