Wondering if it’s more room familiarity and/or did Casale jump levels.. could be a case of Desmond beating LL.. regardless if Casale does better in opens and/or has better results might be debatable later. What were the other results of the indicator matches?
This one I would chalk up to room familiarity. Just like when White beat Van Brill. We got all excited to see White, then once we did, the ballon burst. Kid did OK, but never came close to the level of Van Brill.

Casale was a big HS recruit with greater expectations than we have seen. I hope it is room familiarity rather than Cotton regression. Either way, Cotton better pick it up.

I don't know but would say not regression. He made a huge jump ability wise from MSU to Rutgers as the season went on. Don't see why the better coaching would have a negative effect. I have no problem with our upper and middle weight coaching. Lower weights is where the problem lies.

Huh? Between Peterson, Shawver, and Olivieri I’d argue we’ve been better at lower weights than anywhere else. Even guys like Hielmann, Moore, and Smith had good years.

I’m hoping it was more that Casale jumped lvls.. and meeting his hs expectations.. no one really thought Lilledahl regressed when Desmond beat him so hoping the same for Cotton.. either way, it was only a indicator match and lets see who continues to improve and may the best man win the spot come March.

Labriola has only been here for two years and I see marked improvement in the upperwieghts, I also like Elam in the SKWC. Ashnault for the middle weights goes without saying and then you also have Sasso. Goodale should have kept going on improving the staff.

The guys you mentioned except for one guy, one year faltered at Nationals, when most were hoping for more. Maybe you weren't, if so, I guess you're satisfied with mediocrity.

It was time for Goodale to upgrade everyone as the program has regressed. If you don't think so, then again, you're satisfied with mediocrity. I've never had a problem with Goodale as a figure head. But he needs top notch assistants up and down the lineup to help out, where his skill set falls short.

Obviously I expected more but I don’t think our upperweights have done well at nationals either. We’ve been weak at 149-165 for a decade.

Ashnault’s first stint here we became really good on top, I’m hoping that comes back.
