Long way to go executing the read and react offense, Lot of standing around reading and not a lot of reacting.
Jan needs to give up on these awkward angle lobs to the post
There is never a good reason to throw a pass into the post who is already double teamed. Take the freaking shot or pass it to a wide open shooter.
My gawd Jan, coach them to not pass into double teams. Same crap as last year.
They're double teaming the post down low before she's receiving the ball. The solution is not forcing the ball regardless of that fact. It results in a turn over more often than not. Just really bad decision making.
Ugly game tonight. Carnegie is going to have to be outstanding this year. When the offense breaks down or teams are denying entry passes, she's going to have to create the offense. Love her game.
Ugly win but not a bad win. A lot to clean up. Comparable to a lot of top 25 scores across the country tonight.
There needs to be a recognition that you can't feed the post with a double team. It's just dumb basketball. Shoot the ball or find the open shooter. Iowa wins by 40 tonight without that nonsense.
When teams are doubling wing entry passes to the post reverse the ball, It looked ugly as hell but staying positive there is a lot of room for growth offensively.

MW with 10 points, (on just 5 shots), 8 boards, and 3 blocks is pretty good. 4TO's obviously needs to be better

Like I said if you can win your first game by almost 30, installing a new offense and IF they learn from this, then all good. They obviously have some work to do, but there's plenty of talent on this team to be successful......

i would agree with Scott 100%. One really important principle or rule of the read and react is there must be circle movement on penetration. I thought the ladies did a poor job by standing, thus not creating space and creating an open window for a kick out pass. That will get better or we are not running the read and react as intended. I believe we will get it done right.
A couple of those were the double teamed post passes that this team thrives on.
Pretty big jump to a conclusion on a kid who's started almost 100 games and been a good scorer and defender on P4 teams. She's also learning her 3rd new system in 4 years, Maybe wait and see.....We saw Kylie in her 6th year in college, 5 on the same team.
Exactly. Those ridiculous post feeds were responsible for nearly all of the turnovers tonight.
Whiting is a good defender. She got some crap fouls tonight by playing good D.
Guys were complaining about her while she had 5 boards in the first half. She couldn’t have been that terrible.
Agreed. They've seemingly always done this under Jan. I wonder if the post feed is being stressed so hard they feel pressured to force it.
I completely understand the emphasis on feeding Ava because she's an automatic bucket, but there needs to be clear direction that the post only gets fed when Ava is facing a single defender. 16 turnovers against a team like Towson is ridiculously high.
For the second game in a row, I went to the game with my seventh grade granddaughter because my spouse is out of town. She is a rabid fan. Life is good.
I couldn't decide if this would be a 30 or 40 point blowout, so I was frustrated with the game. That said, Iowa generally starts every season slowly and builds to a climax when it matters. I can be patient, especially with this many new players. I see so much promise.
