Predicting any 8A upsets this weekend?? I think (hope) we might get one.....

Anyone thinking we may have a few upsets this weekend in 8A?

Barrington is as hot as any team right now, does anyone think they have a shot against Mt. Carmel?

Can York hang w/ Loyola? York beat some top 15 teams (DGN, GBW, and LT) in a row as well.

Hinsdale is a sneaky good team, can they make this a competitive game vs LWE?

Can Chicago Lane beat Huntley? Not sure how good Huntley is since they really haven't played anyone.

The other games (Oswego vs NapNorth, Bolingbrook vs Lyons, New Trier vs HF, and Maine South vs Ignatius ) are all toss-ups if you ask me. I really don't see a definite "favorite" for those games.

* Would be GREAT if either Barrington, York, or Hinsdale could knock off one of the Big 3 in 8A!!! Everyone loves an upset... love to get anyone's thoughts.

Barrington/MC - Not a chance.
York/Loyola - Sure York can hang for awhile
Hinsdale Central/LWE - HC is not very good, they are gonna get beaten badly.
Lane/Huntley - Eh, Lane got smashed by the two best teams they played. Massey doesn't think it will be close.

Iggy over Maine South is a very real possibility.

The loss to Batavia and tight wins over New Trier and GBS show Maine South to be vulnerable this year.

You don't think Barrington has a chance against Mt Carmel? Teams can get hot and Barrington is one of them right now! Barrington whipped Conant who at the time people thought was a solid team and they just beat a very good Sandburg team. Hinsdale Central beat York and in my opinion has a better match up vs LWE than York does playing Loyola. People thought York was going to get killed vs DGN and GBW and ended up beating both of them. Of course I could be wrong, but I think one of those 3 teams (Barrington, York, or HC) comes away with a victory this weekend. Don't think it will be 2 out of 3, but definitely can see 1 out of 3

Oswego and Lyons are big favorites. I think everyone wants Barrington to win but I don't know how feasible that is. They beat a very typical Sandburg team.

I disagree, I don't see Oswego and Lyons as big favorites. Naperville Notth is a very good team and very capable of beating Oswego. I still think HF beats Lyons by 1-2 TD's, don't think most people would view Lyons as a favorite.

MC has put that drive for 5. Behind them I believe and refocused on the big picture.

You called Lyons a top 15 team in the OP. I've been to 2 NN games this season, they're solid. Oswego should win big.

Oswego and NN have had some common opponents this season (NV & NC). Oswego won both by 3 scores and let off the gas in the 2nd 1/2 of both games. North on the other hand won both games by a TD.

Everyone predicting a Mt Carmel vs Loyola rematch in the State Championship. I am going out on a limb and say one of those teams lose this weekend. Both Barrington and York are hot and have a lot of momentum, I think Barrington has a good shot to beat Mt Carmel and York has a outside shot to beat Loyola. There I said it, I know I could be wrong but think one of them loses this weekend.......

I agree Loyola is more vulnerable this year than most on this board believe. Their offense is totally capable of disappearing for a quarter or two -- how they weren't intercepted twice in Q1 last week I have no idea. I believe both of these things to be true: a) Loyola should be favored to make the final and b) Loyola could easily lose any weekend the rest of the way. But York's resume isn't particularly exciting (losing to this year's Naz and OPRF), so unsure this is the week.

Well MC is kinda on a roll since losing to BR....they've beaten Providence 49-14, JCA 42-14, Previously #1 LA 38-21 and Marist 55-21 and it was 49-7 early 3rd when they took the starters out. I know Loyola would beat Barrington easily. I'm confident Providence would beat them and depending on which JCA team shows they would give them a game. Having seen Marist twice maybe Barrington wins but it's really a toss up. If Barrington played MCs schedule I think they go 2-7 with 0-9 not being out of the question.

I don't know really anything about Barrington. With 4 loses I'm not sure if they have the defense to stop a QB with 38 TD passes, two four star WRs, a third WR that would be a lot of teams #1, and a TE that's been one of the best TEs in the State with 8 TDs in 6 games....and a nearly 1,000 yard rusher at RB....I heard Barrington has been going pretty much with a strong running game, and that is the strength of MC defense.

The game has to be played. Anything is possible. Barrington is playing with house money. They have nothing to lose. All that said I like MC 49-14. And it's at MC where they lost 3 games since opening the stadium 7 years ago, 2 to Loyola, 1 to BR. Not guessing Barrington will be the 4th.

Sounds like most people think York has a better shot to beat Loyola than Barrington does Mt Carmel?? Not sure if I agree, still think one of the two has an upset win this weekend. I know both MC and Loyola are heavy favorites to win but they are each playing a very hot team that hasn't lost in over a month and has beaten some top 10 teams! Naperville North has had some big wins, even beating Barrington in week 3, beat Fremd last week, plus was playing ESL very tough until their dynamite QB got knocked out with a concussion. Oswego is very beatable, hasn't won against any great teams, this game goes down to the wire.

Barrington beat Sandburg, York Beat DGN and GBW (both Top 10 teams in 7A) and LT was at one point ranked Top 10 in 8A.

Sandberg was a legit team and Barrington played them well.

if Barrington can get their run game going… could be a closer than most expect

Osterhues is being heavily recruited by Wisconsin and he is slippery

The Caravan are coming on, finally living up to all the preseason hype. They smothered Marist with nine sacks, 3.5 by Caleb Tucker, and will do the same to Barrington.

Cloherty has 41 TD passes and could have 20 more by the end of November.

Barrington: No way. They just don't have the horses.
York: They have a better shot than Barrington but Loyola will win big.
HInsdale: I have not seen them but unlikely based on LWE performances this year.
Lane: Will get smoked by Huntley. This is Huntley's best team ever IMO.

Oswego will beat Naperville North but itll be a decent game. Oswego by 14.
The Brook should take care of business against Lyons. The Brook by 14.

I think the two best games will be New Trier Vs. HF and Maine South vs Ignatius. My picks are HF by 7, and Maine South by 14. I think Ignatius is great but Maine South will Maine South. Maybe the school that turns it up a notch the most come playoff time.

All of this being said I hope that there are upsets. I always root for the underdog.

1. Ignatius (Picking to win, and I wouldn't be shocked if it was by 2 scores or more)
2. HF (I am picking them to win, but it will be CLOSE!)

3. Lyons (close by slight edge to Brook)
4. Naperville North (will remain competitive but Oswego pulls out a 1-2 score W)
5. York (if they were playing anyone minus MC/Loyola/LWE I would consider picking them to win; still think they keep it close for at least the first half)
6. Barrington (maybe not running clock but 3+ score win by MC)
7. Hinsdale Central (potential running clock)
8. Lane Tech (running clock)

Barrington isn't a great passing team but I also think they won't be able to run the ball on MC. I think it's a running clock by the 3rd quarter. Maybe even half.

I agree w/ your assessment. Ignatius, HF, Lyons, and even Naperville North winning this weekend I would not see as a major upset, still think they are toss ups and 7 point games either way. York, Barrington, or Hinsdale winning would be a MAJOR upset and my point is that I think Barrington and possibly York have a chance to win. Both on a hot streak and playing their best football, I give them each a 25%-33% chance of winning, but if they lost I can see it being 10-14 points, not the running clock as some are saying. It would be great for Illinois football in my opinion to see a public school beat a team like Mt Carmel or Loyola in the playoffs, not likely I get it but would be nice to see.

MC will score at will. Barrington has a nice RB but he is not equipped to carry the ball 30 plus time vs MC.
