Hard decisons for PSU off season regarding chronically injured players

That's a specious argument. If Arrington has the same issues as Granville and Tatsch, then he shouldn't be retained either.
How many players on this team perform at or above their pay? Are you replacing everyone who underperformed? That will be well over er half the team.

Who is your qb next year? Not manske with multiple injuries.

Meat on the Hoof was written in 1972 by Gary Shaw regarding the state of affairs in the University of Texas football program.

Between then and now, Penn State enjoyed the Grand experiment to a certain extent. One would think college football is back to being closer to Meat on the Hoof.

Speeches are great. Now show me the money…..

LOL note he was speaking to recruits not their agents.

Some guys just can't play. It's really that simple. In the NFL, injury prone players do not last. The sport has different demands and these kids simply are too brittle for the sport. They should be encouraged however to remain with the program should they want to contribute in off the field ways, but it's understood that they will no longer be paid. We have paid these kids to stand on the sidelines quite long enough thank you: At most of our competitors schools, they would already be long gone.

What do you do? It's becoming very clear now that Howard will not play again this season, and this is 2 and a half years without Granville. Only so much money to go around. Sorry but you just cannot keep these injury prone kids any longer. You are, at this point either paying them not to play, or paying them to play a couple games then get injured again.

Thoughts...

You're assumption on Howard is flat out wrong just per the PC that just occurred, never mind the rest of the year which you just simply made up and ran with it like you knew something. I could understand the question on Granville, but just in case you missed every single game this year....PSU is not in the position to turn away DE's. Can he stay healthy...don't know for sure, but I imagine they'll take a chance on it.

What was said in the presser for those of us who missed it?

The bigger concern should be does Howard look for greener pastures unless PSU signs a proven QB.
It seems like the staff is going to be going to the portal after the season and I have a feeling that they are going to spend a bit of cash to get a "dude". I have a few names in mind that I can see them going after. One of them is at Morgantown right now.

Granville's NIL has to be reduced. His injury history makes him unreliable. Tatsch (LBer) and Robinson (DE) might be in the same category. Have to bring in portal DEs, DTs, 9and LBers. Will have to hope Kemajou, McPherson, Arrington, Burnett, and Freshman Reeder (all DEs) make a leap to be able to effectively contribute. PSU needs a pass wrecking DE and two quick/strong DTs from the portal along with LBers.

Is DE Jackson Ford injured, or did you just forget him in your list? I can't keep up with all the i juries this year, so I might have missed his.

Also, what is your opinion about Arrington? Why, in the face of such a weak LB room, would the staff not move Arrington to LB? I thought he was supposed to be quick but light.

We don't have the option of turning away good players.
Yes Granville has a history of injuries I would think a reduced NIL (with the rider of a really good season by him could boost that NIL) lets call it an incentive.

I forgot Ford (great prospect). Thank you for that reminder. Not sure what is going on with Arrington's position switch from LBer to DE other than he was injured and that has no doubt stunted his progress.

Are incentivized NIL agreements allowed?

HCMC wasn't exactly exuding confidence about Howard playing against Washington. He said they want Howard at 100% before they put him back on the field. I think that might not happen this season. I remain concerned. His injury must have been worse than a "hammy".

I guess the good news, if any, is outside of Howard, I don't see a whole lot of schools coming after any of these guys.

There was a relatively recent thread on this exact subject, why not just add to it?

Even your statement here isn't clear he won't play this year

Regarding Howard, while I believe that he is worth a fat check for us for 2027, he had injury issues during high school as well. Not sure if this is another Tatsch or Granville type situation, but I am concerned about it as well. I listen to Tengwall on my way home from work, and I agree with him that reading between the lines, Campbell does not feel Manske is ready at all. He must look horrible in practice. I think we might be looking for a day one starter in the portal for next season.

The questionable for Howard seems to translate to out but we will see. Whatever happened to he will be ready after the bye? If he doesn't play this week and next you may just sit him for the last two. We can probably win them with Sowell and why risk another injury.

Again...none of that is clear he won't play. Just what you want to see happen.
I'd like to see him play, unfortunately the longer this drags out, the less likely it becomes. Then what? Three of PSU's players with very high potential (two of whom are out for another season), and now Howard seems to have a problem staying healthy going back to his high school days.

Not sure that is a great move when next year you can be draft eligible. Not to mention this is a guy who seems to love the work and the sport so I doubt he wants to be on the sideline. I could be off there, just an outside observation which isn't worth much.

He may simply be a guy that's never truly healthy. It's something to consider.
The "tone" of the thread though, to me, is a belief he's not playing despite being able because he wants to leave.

I apologize if that is my tone. Don't mean it to be. Concerned now this "hammy" is much more serious than previously reported. If coach says he has to be 100% to play, then they must be very concerned about re-injury and further set back.

All good...not necessarily your tone but the general tone of the thread. There's a segment of the base that wants him to sit out the rest of the year then leave to attack MC. Just the way it is now...like when "fans" wanted is to lose to attack James.

This is the point. The facts suggest that both players are injury prone and have spent the vast majority of their careers, not actually playing football. Power 4 organizations that are serious about putting a successful product on the field do not carry players who don't actually play. As I have said and as the FACTS have shown, both Howard and Max, are not assets. It's unfortunate. Some kids, with exceptional promise, are not physically able to play the sport. It's real and it happens. Some kids are made of glass. The decision needs to be made this off season: Are players with promise who cannot play, worth paying?
