College football is in huge trouble

It is called college football for a reason. These kids get tutors, as they don't attend classes for the most part. They are students in name only. Wait til the deep recession/ depression hits. Empty stands as there won't be very many students or fans able to afford the overpriced tickets. Do I eat this week or do I go to a rather outdated form of entertainment? This will be the question being asked in the coming years. The overpriced entertainment will be the first thing to get hit hard.

Nobody went to class before NIL, either. This fan base should understand that better than practically any other.

Yes, they did. That’s a flat out lie. They were real students. You would always hear “I saw (so and so) going between classes” or “I saw (so and so) at the library craming.” And I personally know this as I used to live in the same building as CJ Bacher and Cam Green and we talked about it. Keep up your gaslighting. Fool.

I was a TA who taught a number of classes during the 1980s and can report that of at least 5 FB and BB players I knew of in the classes I taught, all attended class, 4 that I know of did really well, and one did very poorly. So, don't know about other places, but at least here I'm fairly confident in the past at least, the students were fairly serious.

I am sure this is all true, but you must not have lived in the same building as CJ Bacher and Cam Green and talked to them . This would have provided all the confirmation anyone needed. You probably were not on the 10 year plan like Baz either. Since CJ started his NU career in 2004 and Cam in 2015! Let’s see if he even attempts to explain that one away. I take things that never happened for $1000 Alex.

This whole thing was never about anyone questioning whether former or even current players were serious students. I believe they were and are serious. The debate centers around NIL and the ludicrous thought that these players are all going to blow the cash and be better off just playing school. They can do both!

Yeah, *at Northwestern* they did. Most schools stopped making athletes challenge themselves 50 years ago.

Huh? Because they graduated roughly a decade apart they couldn’t live in the same building with me? Wild take!

Stop the ********. Nice wording, notice you are crafty. Stop the lying to make your points. You are the guy always talking about the value and earning power of that NU degree. You mean to tell us you lived in the same building at least 8 years as NU football players that weren’t paid back in the day! You must have really like that building. These “unemployed” players managed to live in your building? The same building as a well to do NU graduate like yourself? Doesn’t sound like you were reeling in the cash during those years or maybe you were just a NU football fan boy that decided to stay in the same place for over a decade to hob knob with the players? Now you make 7 figures. Wow, your career really took off the last decade!

A few contributing factors IMO

Major Impact
1. Every game is on TV and in HD. COVID accelerated a trend of more people being homebodies and consumption of media. You can get a better viewing experience at home than on TV.
2. Attention spans are shorter and more forms of media compete for our attention than ever. Attending a college football game is basically a dopamine detox compared to being at home with multiple games on and good wifi to use one's phone

Medium Impact
3. Super conferences and shrinking in-state enrollments reduce school pride and localized alumni bases. More alumni need to travel longer distances than they did in decades past. Less local rivalries make non-championship contending teams less interesting to watch for their fan bases. Sorry I don't care about Northwestern playing Rutgers or UCLA.

Low Impact
4. NILs and transfers. I think this bothers superfans more than casuals but it does make a team harder to follow when you can't reliably recall the name of the starting QB or other star player

I lived in the building 4 years when they both did. 400 N LaSalle Dr. You can Google it.

I never said my salary was 7 figures. My NW is. What the **** is wrong with you? Keep making excuses for the devolution of one of the greatest sports in the world.

I don’t doubt you lived in this building 4 years. CJ was class of 2008. Cam was class of 2018. They are approximately 10 years difference in age. Saying you spoke to both of them while you lived in the building doesn’t make any sense since they never were teammates and CJ was done 7 years before Cam got to campus. I am just calling out your claim because you are either making it up or you got your players mixed up. Dates don’t jive!
