Ohio State football players are required to take classes to maintain their eligibility to play, as they must be enrolled as full-time students and meet both NCAA and Ohio State's specific academic requirements. Student-athletes must attend classes and make consistent academic progress to remain on the team.

You are thinking of USC.

There’s a lot of funny stuff in this thread. And it’s not just OSU or USC. ITS all schools now. I mean how can these kids transfer so easily relative to grades/ school work. SMH

Cardele Jones says otherwise.... given that he was a starting QB for duhO$U, I'd say he's a better authority on the topic than you.

They all “don’t come to play school.” Universities have to be complicit with the grades and credits sham because I just don’t see how most of these professional athlete ”students“ have a high enough GPA and credit/hour load to maintain eligibility. Having read recently that some of the Ivy League schools hand out 80% A’s in their classes there just doesn’t seem to be much accountability anymore.

I don’t know what it is like at Penn State. When I attended, the College of Science handed out around 5% A’s. It was extremely difficult to get an A in a class and I was happy to graduate with a 3.65 GPA.

Now, kids can focus on finals in the spring, as they should.

Other than the service academies, academics factor in very little anywhere- don't kid yourself.

I never made the deans list either, but I also was firmly entrenched in my "I shall coast to the B rather than work my *** off for an A" mentality from about the 10th grade onward lol. Specially once you realized that baring a narrow set of majors, no one is ever going to see your grades once you get your degree. I was asked for zero transcripts when looking for jobs after school lol.

Fair point, but if you are applying to grad school you will be judged harshly on your undergraduate grades. Also, if the current high schoolers started coasting in 10th grade, many wouldn’t get into the school or major of their choice. It’s pretty highly competitive right now as a parent going though it currently.

Not here to play school.

Everyone kills people.

Some classic lines from OSU QBs over the years.

Did they select January 2-11 so that our backup QB can run off to Missouri or something during a playoff run?

Similar to @leinbacker line of thought, doesn't this increase the likelihood of players on playoff teams transferring during the playoff run?

Jones had the balls to say what many big time college players know is true. Jones was at OSU before NIL. Now you have kids making 7 figures to play football. Do you think they give a shi* about English class? By the way all of the big programs are now "$". That includes Penn State.
