Our gut feeling when he was hired is turning out to be true, he wasn’t the right choice. The University of Kentucky deserved someone who had at least won a tournament game. Kudos to him for tapping the nostalgia to rally everyone, but it doesn’t change the fact that it was and still is a bad hire.

Mitch will not fire him, the only hope is that if this continues, then Pope will step down at the end of the year.

We are in a really, really bad situation. I think part of the reason we had to hire Pope in the first place is coaches know that UK has unrealistic expectations. Now, add on that we ran a hall of fame coach off. His replacement made it to the sweet sixteen and had the most top 10 wins ever in his first season. He's off to a bad star his second season and we fire him? We are stuck with Pope for at least another season unless he resigns. Another year of this will be hard to take, but the focus needs to be laying the groundwork for the next "homerun" hire. We absolutely must get someone the likes of Hurley, Oats, Pearl to return to greatness.

The on court product is bad, off court has been filled with rumors, and recruiting is nonexistent. How many guys would you honestly want to see back next year? There is currently no hope in this program, UK has to make changes and move on. Mitch won’t be fired, but force him into retirement.
Moreno and the 2 redshirts can stay. Everyone else needs to GTFO, including the coaches.

If Mitch was any good at all, he would be having private conversations with Bruce Pearl right now. No more hiring guys that don't have the resume. Pearl has 2 Final 4's and plays a style UK fans would kill for
He’s not coaching right now, so it wouldn't be sketchy to do.

I agree, bring Pearl in for 5-6 years while looking for a young Mark Golden type to replace him. Won’t happen but fun to think about. Mitch is more likely to hire Tony Bennett.

Throwing my hat in the ring here. As much as I hate this, Pope has to go.

My initial reaction to his hiring, was like so many others. I was disappointed.

But then he said all the right things and had a surprising season. I figured we had something, even though there were some red flags.

But this season is going about how I thought things would go when I heard he was hired.

Pope loves UK and he’s doing his best, but he just doesn't have what it takes. You can't just give this job to anybody, you have to be a special coach to hanfle this and I'm not sure Pope will ever be that.

This sucks

Yes, Pope has got to go. It's not just this year, yes, this year has been awful with six terrible losses already and it looks to get much worse but as others have pointed out, there is ZERO recruiting for next year, there will be a mass exodus after this debacle of a season, etc...what the hell kind of team are we going to have next year ? At best, I can't see it being much better than this year at all and at worst, it could be even worse than this year. It's a tunnel of darkness and I (and many others) see no light at the end of the tunnel under Pope. If you hire a Coach like Bruce Pearl, I honest to God believe he would get this **** turned around in one season. Hell, if we brought him in this season, he might be able to turn things around and get us into the NCAA Tournament. He would bring a ton of excitement right from the jump for the team and fans. And even if he couldn't turn this trainwreck of a team around, next year would be looking bright or at least we'd see light at the end of the tunnel. With Pope, there's NONE of that. And yes, Barney needs to be fired too.
