You have a good job, no debt and have already demonstrated that you are responsible with money. What would you do with a million dollars that you inherited?

Pay off the house, then buy some dividend paying stocks. Use the dividends for more fun in life every quarter. That should add around $20,000-$30,000 to your income every year and save most of us around $1,000 a month in mortgage payments. That's a substantial improvement in quality of life.

Yup. Become debt free, up my retirement contribution, up my portfolio contribution, enjoy an improved quality of life now, retire earlier than anticipated, then play, play, play.

Half in a laddered portfolio of bonds (different maturities) and half in dividend stocks with growth. You need growth to keep up with inflation over time. Spend the after tax dividends and bond interest on whatever makes you happy (travel, women, club memberships, sporting events, etc.). This assumes that you keep your job. By the time you are in your 60's, you can start spending some of the principal (2%-3% per year) if you don't want to leave the whole +$1 million to your heirs.

just listen to If I had $1,000,000 by the Barenaked Ladies.

For starters :

A nice chesterfield or a ottoman.
A nice K Car ( a real reliable automobile)
A monkey, haven't you always wanted a monkey ?
A treefort in my front yard.

Seriously if you have never heard the song, just Google it, warning, it is addictive and you will play it on repeat in case you missed something.

I would buy every trailer park in America or until I ran out of money and sit back and watch the money pour in.

I would buy a pool and fill it with 10 million chicken nuggets.

Probably going to need some dipping sauce to make that organ meat, fat, bone marrow, connective tissue and nerve bundles taste better. Like the old Wendy's commercial said...Nuggets- Parts is Parts.

"What people are actually getting from chicken nuggets is a bit different, according to a new study by University of Mississippi medical researchers. They bought an order of chicken nuggets from two (unnamed) fast-food chains, plucked a nugget from each, broke them down, and analyzed them in a lab. One of them contained just 40 percent muscle. The rest? “[G]enerous quantities of fat and other tissue, including connective tissue and bone spicules.” Mmmm, chicken bones.

The other sample had a whopping 50 percent muscle. The remainder consisted “primarily of fat, with some blood vessels and nerve present,” as well as epithelium, the stuff that glands are made of.

"Well…basically…a snake don’t have parts. But, um, if I had to call it anything…I would say it’s his knee."
