Last month, Bowlsby and Oklahoma president David Boren said Bowlsby would be in touch with the schools that initially contacted the Big 12. The league said it hopes to make a decision on expansion by the Big 12's regularly scheduled board of directors meeting in October.

The 17 schools that will make their presentations to the Big 12 include
Cincinnati, Houston, BYU, South Florida, UCF, UConn, Memphis, Colorado State, Boise State, Tulane, Temple, East Carolina, SMU, New Mexico and Northern Illinois, sources said

There's only a limited number of spots left for all those on the outside looking in for the superconferences. EVERYONE is going to be jockying to try to get one of those slots.

I don't see one school in that lineup that belongs in a "super conference" - maybe BYU and if Houston could take the next step. Boise has had some success but a risk long-term.

I think that Cincinnati has respectable enough programs in both major sports for a major conference. In that respect Memphis isn't too far behind. If I was making the decision though, BYU is the easy call.

The Big12 really messed up. When the the other conferences were expanding they should've jumped on the chance to add a couple. Instead they sat back and waited. Now, their choices are poor.

And, if you think that when the Pac12, BigTEN, SEC expand further it's gonna cause a ripple effect that will leave the Big12 further behind.

I'm surprised to not see air force in that list. I'm sure they're missing a couple sports but they could add them. Or they're in sports a conference could let slide.

They should add Colorado State and byu. And that's it. Know your lane Big 12. Be the plains and Rockies conference. Hope someone takes West Virginia off your hands.

The Big 12 will split up with the top teams going to the SEC, BIG 10 and perhaps the PAC 12. All the rest will form the fifth major conference. Everything going on now in the Big 12 is a smoke screen.

They were the conference getting raided when the other conferences were expanding, they lost Nebraska, Colorado, Missouri and A&M. The conference almost collapsed at that time, Texas and it's Longhorn network were responsible.

If the other P5 conferences came calling on some of the Big12's teams it could very well end the conference. But not every team would be a take, how many teams from the state of Texas does a single conference want? Texas and OU would be the 2 with big followings, but Texas is a conference killer.
