His kids are all in Alabama and was recently divorced and does not want to be away from them on top of the fact that when the job opened when Cal left , before he was even talked to . He doesn’t want the pressure or expectations that UK and the fans expect.

Oats added that Final Fours are “expected at a place like Kentucky,” citing UK fans’ disappointment in John Calipari at the end of Calipari’s time in Lexington. “Like, John Calipari’s a pretty good coach, he’s won a lot of games in his life,” Oats said. “He’s won everywhere he’s been, and they weren’t happy.”

Our worst fans think they're our best fans but they 100% ARE NOT.

Why is this lie being repeated? He said he liked the pressure at UK, Becuase he holds himself to a similar pressure. And he’s not divorced. There’s literally a yahoo article talkign about his marriage, dated March 2025. Where did this BS come from?

I sent them the exact article this was quoted in and they just say it was coach speak. Not understanding that the fan behavior is why he doesn’t want to be here. I’m still hoping for Golden though if things don’t get fixed.

I think Oats will eventually coach at a blue blood before the end of his career. I can't see him happily playing second fiddle to Bama football forever. His ego and talent is built for a high level basketball school. Same with Golden.

This can’t be tolerated and I don’t care who the coach is.

The thing is, guarantee contracts is what got is in deep water in the first place.. one with Pope and Cal's last one.

Im not sure i ever want to see a guaranteed contract again.. but my fear here is that no coach is going to leave his current job, to come to UK without one. Way too risky of a job where fans have the highest expectations. So as much as I hate Mitches contracts.. are they neccesary?

(Disclaimer: Mitch still needs to go for many other reasons).

If it’s not Kentucky, he probably ends up at Kansas in a couple years. Maybe UNC if they can’t find a “UNC man.”

Oats would come here. See I can make statements on message boards I know nothing about too.
Except that there's actually some evidence that he won't come here versus that he will. The biggest reason being is we can't afford to pay his buyout.

So who are legitimate candidates? He will get another year but can use that time to garner interest.
