Hi Paddock,

I'm sure some of you are familiar with my NBA Drafts on Rupp Rafters. Hopefully you will accept me doing this MLB Draft in this forum.

I will be doing an All-Time Historic MLB Draft with 15 members maybe more if the interest is there.

The criteria is open to change but so far it will be really simple: "Who wins a 7 game World Series"

Roster - 8 Starters, 3 utility (bench) Pitchers 4 starters and 1 closer.

Can we add one more pick specific to a closer? Or would it be better to assume a rotation of 3 starters for the World Series and make one of the picks a closer? I know getting into relief pitchers would be a littler much, but I do like the idea of rostering a closer. I’m also fine with DH being left off

I understand the game is played a little differently today. However I'd like to avoid relief pitchers.

I am willing to add a closer for the 9th inning. But I kinda hope we just assume the starter goes 8 innings.

Yeah, I dont like a DH in this format. I'd say to draft 4 pitchers, make them starters or closers at your whim.

Baseball has always been my favorite sport, but I just don't have the time to enter. I'll check this thread regularly though.

Also, just to make sure, no requirement for drafting positions? We can be first base and right field heavy with our batting orders?

You could certainly draft 3 right fielders if you want and use them for your outfield spots... however I wouldn't use an everyday outfielder for infield could hurt you in the voting.

I'm personally going to build a team around a batting order. But each to their own.

Same. I’ll be going by the books best I can. I could see myself fitting in a Edgar Martinez or David Ortiz in my lineup, however. Two of the best hitters to ever play the game But primarily DH’s obviously

Im interested but I have no idea how this works. Is there a brief explanation someone can point me to somewhere? And how much time do we need to dedicate? Lord knows I piss away enough time on here so I doubt thats an issue. Just never done a draft like this

I should probably let @UKNorse answer this but I'll try. However many of us decide to play, uknorse will create a random draft order and its a snake draft meaning that each round reverses itself. It starts round 1 with whomever has 1st pick at the end of round 1 we stay with the person who picked last and they pick first in the 2nd round. In this draft we are picking 16 players throughout MLB history to make the best team for a 7 game world series. We are picking 8 starters, 3 bench players, 4 starting pitchers and 1 relief pitcher. Once the draft is done, uknorse will randomize us again to get head to head matches. Depending on the number of players involved, there may be bye or 2 in the 1st round. Everyone on the board is then given 2 days to vote for the team they think will win in the head to head 7 games series and during that time the players talk up their strengths and try to expose their opponents weaknesses. The winner moves on to round 2 and so on. It doesn't really take that much time but its best to have a plan for the type team you want to draft and work on selections and backup selections before your turn each round.

Well that's the bad part of the deal. @Cowtown Cat keeps sending "family friendly pictures" of his wife to @UKNorse then @UKNorse tips the scales for him. Other than that we have a great time and the rest of the draft order is supposedly randomized.
Any excuse is better than none. It sounded good, anyway. [laughing] She’s excited about it, though, since she helped me make my first several picks.
