An interesting article about Gavin. I thought being from Whitehorse, Yukon was wild. His family moved there to provide a better opportunity for him. He’s actually from Fort McPherson in NW Territories of Canada. It looks to be about 50 miles from the god damn Arctic Ocean.

I will always root for this young man for making us part of his journey.
Thanks for the link but it looks like you misread the part about moving to Whitehorse. That was a different family.
Gary Jerome, a hockey dad and uncle to four children in Whitehorse, says he and his family are McKenna fans and applaud the player's decision, but he also thinks it's a sign Canada could make some changes.

"Sorry for my language, but it sucks for Canadian hockey because they're not producing the same qualities as the States are, right? It's kind of Canada's loss," said Jerome, who is no stranger to relocating for hockey.

In 2017, Jerome and his family moved from Fort McPherson, a Gwi'chin First Nation in the Northwest Territories, to Whitehorse so his son Evander, 12, and twin 10-year-old daughters could play competitive hockey.

From what I can tell, McKenna was born and lived his whole life in Whitehorse.

Maybe the first half of the conference schedule? That's how the Gophers schedule was released last season. Painfully slow build.

Edit: Our schedule so far:

03 and 04-Oct Michigan Tech

09 and 10 Oct Boston College

17 and 18-Oct @ North Dakota

24 and 25-Oct Minnesota Duluth

14 and 15 Nov Long Island

28-Nov @ Denver

02-Jan-2026 @ Bemidji State

Fun, but tough start.

I kind of like it in a sink or swim kind of way. Nobody really expects much next season from the Gophers except some diehard fans. The one downfall is you don't get to do much line tweaking/ experimentation. Stating the obvious, being able to go three to four lines deep is important come tournament time. The other plus is learning how to face various styles of play. Most conferences do not have four or five teams (Three for sure) that play as fast/ wide open as our conference does.
