Please use the thread for all pre-session, in-session, and post-session discussion for the Session V of the 2025 NCAA Championships.

When:
March 22, 11:00 am EDT

Where:
Wells Fargo Center, Philadelphia, PA

TV:
ESPNU

Video Streaming:
ESPN+. Please note that this is the only way to get access to multiple mats (They call it MatCast). Info about this is in the 1st thread in the Session I Thread.

Audio Streaming:
The radio PBP, with Jeff Byers at the mic, will be streamed for free. The pre-Session portion of the broadcast will begin at 10:40 am EDT, with the actual PBP of the matches taking place at 11:00 pm EDT. You can access the audio stream at:

Once there, click on the arrow in the button to the left of "Wrestling: NCAA Championships (Philadelphia, PA) - Session 5

Team Scoring:
The best places for tracking the team scoring race is the Penn State Wrestling Club web site, or TrackWrestling

PBP:
I'll be available for PBP for the entire session. @GregPickel will be in the Wells Fargo Center, and providing his thoughts from there. Hopefully, several of you will also step forward and provide some analysis, or some comments on each match. As always, I remind you to please include the score for the match, or provide some context (wrestler, school, and weight class) beyond just "that's not a takedown." It also helps to give folks a heads up as to what mat a PSU wrestler will be wrestling on. You can usually get that info from Ironhead's audio PBP, from Penn State Wrestling's twitter account, or from TrackWrestling.

PSU has 7 wrestlers in the Consolation Semis. If they win that match, they'll be in the 3rd place match. If they lose that match, they'll be in the 5th place match. The 3rd & the 5th place matches also take place in Session V.

Expect Kerk to MFF?
Hard to say. He looked stiff, but serviceable when he teched Mitchell, but I was nervous when he did nothing but ride Hoffman. He looked stiff, but serviceable to start against Heindselman, and I wasn’t concerned against Hendrickson until I saw him start limping. Schultz is a load, but is nowhere near the wrestler that Hendrickson.

I would think he would give it a go. Last time at the tournament.

@GregPickel -- rats, too many simultaneous matches. How about I handle Mat 1 (Luke & Beau) and you handle Mat 3?

A lot of tough matches for PSU wrestlers.

125: Luke is really good, and I expect him to win. Ventresca is the 3 seed, and is also very good.

133: Davis is always a question mark. Fugitt has wrestled above seed at NCAAs, making it to the Semis before losing (to Ayala).

141: Bartlett's offense is frequently an issue. Koderhandt is the 4 seed, is really strong, and likes to horse opponents.

149: I haven't watch Stiles too much, so I hesitate to talk about him. SVN should win

157: One of the tougher Consolation Semis in the tournament. The #1 seed vs. the #2 seed. Shapiro is really good. With Kasak seeming to be not 100%, this is tough to project. With Shapiro also being injured this season, I haven't a clue on this one

174: Haines is the better wrestler, as long as he's attacking. Ruiz is pretty good -- Haines is just better.

285: A healthy Kerk would win this easily. We just don't know how much his leg injury will impact him today

125 Consolation Semi: #1 seed Luke Lilledahl vs. #3 seed Eddie Ventresca (VT)

I'll use EV for Ventresca

Per 1
Both are active off the whistle. Lots of battling for control, but no shots thru 1st minute. Stoppage for insterlocking fingers with 1:47 left. EV sort of shoots, nothing. DV reaches, nothing. Under 1 min. Luke shoots a single and nearly had a leg, switched the other side, but nothing. EV reaches, Luke with a semi-counter, nothing. End

Per 2
I think EV deferred, and Luke took bottom. He's to his feet, returned, and then OOB with 1:49 left. Luke to his feet, returned, and then spins out, 1-0. Luke shoots, but EV evades it. End. RT @ 19 sec for EV

Per 3
EV takes bottom. Luke with a good ride going, and they go OOB with 1:41 left. Caution on EV. EV sits out, then to his feet, and he's out. RT not a factor (8 sec for Luke), 1-1. Under 1 left, and nobody close to shooting or a TD. OOB with 33 sec left. EV shoots, nothing. End

SV-1
Luke gets a low single, then elevates, and gets the TD, to win 4-1

He'll wrestle later today for 3rd place!!!

Penn State starts session five 1-1. Luke Lilledahl beat Eddie Ventresca of Virginia Tech 4-1 with a takedown 26 seconds into sudden victory. He'll wrestle for third at 125. Braeden Davis will go for fifth at 133 pounds after losing 8-5 to Zan Fugitt of Wisconsin.
