Kids don't come for the program. They come for the coach. Our coach can't recruit and needs a GM in the worst wayAnd there is no sign of any good player listing UK as one of their favorite schools. I know that it is early and I know that you can't always put much confidence in these predictions but DANG! things just keep looking more bleak for the future of Kentucky basketball. Looks like we are going to depend on the portal but how long is that going to last. We are not a popular program any more
A GM isn’t going to anything for the disaster we’re in. And if he hasn’t brought in one by now, he ain’t going to get one.
I believe hiring a GM is the first step in repairing the damage with the program. The problem isn't that pope is a bad XOs coach and it isn't even that he is weird as hell in interviews. It's that he can't recruit the players we need to win. He can't sit at the table and close the deal. None of the kids on this roster are his first choice when he recruited them. Guys like stokes and collins were coming until they weren't. A competent GM will be able to do what Pope himself cannot. We need a guy at the table who can sell.
@Argonaut is actually closer to the truth here. Our issues for Stokes and Collins would not have been solved with a GM. I definitely am open to adding one but fans need to understand the coach closing is not the final step anymore. JMI negotiations are.
