Still think there is a chance a PF/C may reclassify and come to Duke knowing they will get spot minutes next year in hopes of getting starter minutes in ‘20-‘21.

Do you think he would take another if Kessler or Williams decided they want to reclassify?

Neither would though. I also think it’s either or for Boston or Cunningham. Not that we wouldn’t take both, but they might not see it that way.

Honestly, it's really kind of hard getting excited for any future recruit knowing we had Zion and now he is gone..... It's like we had a six legged unicorn on our team. Sorry, just sad he's gone lol

There's definitely some of this for all of us. We're going to be talking about how special he was/is for a long, long time. You just feel kind of robbed that team didn't accomplish more. It's definitely the most hurt I've been after a loss since probably 2006.

I know I have never been so disappointed in a season ending loss as I was this year and by now you would think we would be better conditioned where expectations lose to reality. Will I ever be excited over recruits again? Sure, when Pippin, Jordan, Bird, Magic and Walton commit.

I posted a thread about Coach K offering Mike Buckmire a scholarship for next season. We’re going to have 8 returning players that were scholarships players last season if Justin Robinson will be on scholarship next season and Buckmire being given a scholarship makes 9 players that were already on the team that will have scholarships. We’ve got 4 freshmen coming in next season, so that makes 13 scholarship players for next season. So unless Justin Robinson walks-on next season then we don’t have anymore scholarships available for next season.

I think your math is off.

Duke has six returning recruited players.

Jack White
Javin DeLaurier
Alex O'Connell
Jordan Goldwire
Tre Jones
Joey Baker

Add two walk-ons, with provisional scholarships
Justin Robinson
Mike Buckmire

That makes eight.

Add the four freshmen and you have a 12.

Yeah you’re right. I’m not sure how I was off by one unless I accidentally counted Bolden and didn’t realize that I did.

Don't think we will get them all or need them all. Something tells me that we will have more returning players than normal.OFC

To be fair, I think I'm taking this further than you meant it. But it echoes my thoughts and hesitance to be super excited about whatever class we have coming in. On the one hand, of course I want good players coming in. On the other, when I hear we got so and so or may be looking to get so and so and how that's supposed to be so exciting, I just think "Okay look at this class we just had come in last year and we still couldn't make the Final Four." I'm an extremely spoiled fan; I get it. But we just had RJ Barrett, Cam Reddish, and mother freaking Zion effing Williamson. We went 1-3 against UNC (and Zion had to drop 31 points for us to win by 1) and went out at the Elite 8. Tell me again why I should be ecstatic with whatever class comes in?

Again, I know I'm just being a spoiled fan. I'm still just bitter.

1-2 versus UNC w Zion not playing in 1 game and only 1 minute in another .
I do agree with you. We were loaded this year . Hope we do not try to be like the Golden State Warriors again anytime soon.

White and DeLaurier will use up their eligibility with this season. Jones, Carey and Hurt are almost certain to go pro, Moore is likely. Too soon to tell on Stanley but he's awfully old for a freshman.

So, Duke could be looking at Baker, O'Connell, Goldwire, maybe Stanley returning for 2021.

Which would mean a need for a numerically big class.

Nothing wrong with your post one iota. I think many folks share your views. You almost felt in a sense it was a lock this group would have made at least the final four. It hurts still, and with the kind of classes we've been bringing in (last two years especially)it DOES as you say make it more difficult to get immediately excited about the next group coming in to Durham. I think its only natural and I understand. OFC

I get your point, but we didn't know the circumstances of those games when we landed that class.

Think your counting the chickens before they hatch on several of the above recruits. BJ Boston will be a guy that we battle UK and Auburn for, as he’s no longer a Duke lock. I haven’t seen anyone state Cunningham is a Duke lean. Just that we are in his top 10. Think we battle primarily UNC for him but UK and Memphis will be a factor. Jalen Johnson is a Duke lock and I think we get either Kessler or Williams.

We’ve also got guys like Scottie Barnes and Cam’Ron Fletcher that we are after and the above doesn’t include any kids who may reclassify.

Kessler and Williams are not mutually exclusive, at least from a Duke perspective. Duke needs at least two post players. Duke also is looking at Henry Coleman and Xavier Foster and I'm sure more names will emerge after the summer-camp season.

Possible. Think they go after Scottie Barnes at PF and either Kessler or Williams at Center. Don’t see Foster leaving Iowa and Coleman has been a major Virginia lean.

Duke will need more than 2 post recruits unless Baker can sub at the 4 and 5. There will be 80 minutes of PT for 2020 recruits at the PF and C positions.

Unless Kessler can play 40 mpg Duke will need another center. Joey Baker might grow into a 4 but not a 5. Neither Barnes nor Johnson can play the 5. Duke is recruiting Kessler under the assumption that he's a likely OAD and augmenting that class with Williams as a multi-year guy. They want both.

Keep in mind that this time last year Duke was considered the prohibitive favorite for both Bryan Antione and Josiah James, Matthew Hurt was viewed as a Kansas lock and no one was associating Cassius Stanley with Duke. The days in which Duke wrapped up its recruiting in the fall are gone and I doubt we see their return any time soon.
