The US is going to get destroyed in this dual I fear. Super excited to see how Lilledahl does. The kid he is wrestling just won Russian nationals and should be their world team rep. Will be a great challenge for Luke
Yeah, I was just thinking that this will expose that while the USA has been adding more depth than it traditionally has enjoyed, there are levels to that as well.

Suda with some last second heroics to pull out the win. Gets a Td with :05 left to win 3-3 on criteria. Suda has been Ono’s backup and training partner for years but with Ono at PSU he now has the 61kg spot for Japan. Kid is super tough. He won Asians earlier this year

Clearly the results here affect wrestlers’ seedings at future tournaments like the World Championships.
Are there other considerations? For example, by placing, do athletes help “qualify the weight” for worlds, like they do for the Olympics?

They are just for seeding, but for those not on the world team, it's more about the experience they gain.
I heard the announcers mention that there’s also a cash prize for these—perhaps as a new addition this year?
