State College with one of their better teams in years and it's totally irrelevant because once again fill in the blank "Catholic" blows them out. Holidaysburg with maybe their best team ever and guess what? 7-55 against, you guessed it fill in the blank Catholic.
Or a charter school with a male enrollment of about 200 and, weirdly, about 90 of them are D1 level athletes

Go figure. And the Crooked PIAA sits there and doesn't do a damn thing about it. These kids playing for public schools who never had a chance in hell and didn't understand why. The Holidaysburg game made me sick to my stomach: I personally know the coach and he put the best team ever in their history on the field only to be boat raced by a team of mercenaries. The PIAA needs to be investigated.

How about that Rover? I was thinking the PaPreps site might be picked up by On3. Glad you found the thread. Hope to see you over on the wrestling board too.
On a whim went to look here to see if there was any chatter on the playoff game, as I was pretty excited for Easton’s first quarter since 2010.

I’ll hop over on wrestling periodically - I try not to hijack a Penn State board with high school stuff all the time, but will contribute where it works.

Obviously not the result I wanted Friday, but not stunned. I do think, this wasn’t the Easton team to beat a PCL rep. They’re a really good high school team, but it’s not a year where Easton has a big time, next level difference maker. Cole Ordway is going to be an all state quarterback and has had the best year by an Easton QB ever. But he’s probably 5’10 and if he plays at a Division II school, that’s a great outcome. I think Senneca is the right guy to get Easton to the level of challenging the LaSalle’s and SJPs of the world in the right year. This group was really well coached and got the most out of their ability, the next step is getting kids who have a little bit higher ceilings as athlete to make a run against the big boys. If we want to get in the habit of some fake mailboxes, that would help too.

Twin Valley didn't even have a HS Football program when I was in HS. They have done a phenomenal job at building that program from scratch. Go Raiders and Go Berks!

This Sean Steckert kid is a stud for Southern Lehigh. He's got 300 yards rushing and 4 TD's. SL leads 43-21 with a couple minutes left.
SL really broke this one open. I thought it would be much closer.

Steckert is so fun to watch. 3000 yards for the year.

A couple things I noted. 7 public schools are in the finals vs 5 private schools.

In the only public vs private matchup, Clairton beat BG. Which makes me particularly happy, since I live near these jackasses.
Yeah, I was happy to see that. I have observed in other sports kids jumping between BG, Holidaysburg, and Altoona from season to season.

I didn't get to watch the game, but in 5A on Friday evening, Roman Catholic (Philadelphia) bested Bishop McDevitt, 28-6. Roman has had some really good teams over the years, but I believe this is their 1st football state championship

That was so satisfying that Clairton beat down that team full of mercenaries. It's an absolute joke: They literally take every single talent from Altoona, Holidaysburg, Tyrone, Bellwood Antis, and every single other school within 25 miles of Altoona. They also have clout with the PIAA that keeps their crooked program in single A, while Aliquippa is punished by having to play 4A with close to the same enrollment.

I detest the PIAA and I hate Bishop Guilfoyle even more.

They were the only team to beat LaSalle this year.

Further than 25 miles. They had a kid or two from Huntingdon/Bedford counties over the years.

Never thought back in the day I'd see my old high school win a football state title. Good work fellows!
Over the past decade, they have sort of evolved into an athletic power. I remember playing against them 30+ years ago and they were a solid class A or smaller AA team, but not quite at this level.

Correct. The school has increased in size. That and its coach have contributed to the substantial rise in football. I was in Junior HS during the Eugene "Mercury" Morris days (mid 60's). Even with him they struggled to win consistently in what back then was Class B. Now, Avonworth along with Coraopolis were consistently very good in basketball back then. If I recall correctly, Coraopolis along with Bellevue also fielded some pretty good football teams in that era.
