We have two ways of improving offense
1) give Nance more touches - against Haarms he gets open for 3. Against others he has 1 foot on the defender
2) post Kopp on Stefanovic

The reason we can’t take advantage of those mismatches is inexperience mixed with poor coaching.

Kopp and Nance are our best offensive players we need to get them the ball more. The commentator continues to mention that Nance is the key to our team and needs to get more touches

Nance needs to keep seeing the ball. But when he has to sit for a bit I don't know where the offense is gonna come from.

Well, that sequence will just about do it.

Purdue makes a very difficult 3 from the top of the key. Beran’s 3 looks good but pops out at the last second.

NU will take its lumps this year but I’m still excited about the young guys.

I loved Beran sprinting down the court to contest a fastbreak layup that Turner apparently blocked. But Beran’s athleticism, size and shooting stroke is exciting for the future.

Purdue flopping all over the place.

Young will learn from this game, as all Bigs do against Purdue.

why are you calling the game with 8 minutes left? Of course it’s a long shot but we are only about 3 possessions down. Why watch if you give up so easily?

Nance is just gonna have to be more assertive this year and it looks like Boo could be taking over the PG spot from Spencer sooner rather than later.

We have a lot of good young players. Boo and baron should play more AJ
If we want to play the future, Buie, Kopp, Beran, Nance and Young make quite a fun line up. Spencer, Gaines, Jones and Turner with 10-20 min off the bench each.

This team has fought all night. Boo is improving quickly, Nance looks good. Hopefully they can finish these last 4 mins strong.

We are going to win more than 4-5 games in the big ten. All of our freshmen look good

The refereeing is making 6 on 5. These refs suck and should get their game checks docked

They need to look at the refs. They are beyond horrible and quite one sided. If I were Collins I’d have the big ten look into these quacks

Hard for any team to win at Purdue. I think the key point from this game is that our younger players have potential they should play much more than the upperclassmen, Turner Spencer and Gaines

Turner/Spencer/Gaines/Kopp are going to have to be much, much better than that but the future is definitely looking bright with the youngsters.

Spencer will get 15 minutes or less per game in Big Ten play (assuming Boo is healthy). He’s a tough, heady guy but just not quick enough at the point.

Boo might be quicker than anyone since Juice.

game was closer than final score. Team played hard and showed some promise. A lot of guys figuring out how to play major roles at this level. Nance and Beran have as much talent as any young NU players I’ve seen in 25 years. Kopp, Buie, Young and eventually Jones all look like they belong in the big ten. Not stars maybe but solid. If CC can 2-3 more guys at this level next year along with another potential star we are in very good shape.

CCC was losing his %#+* again. Don’t like that with a young team that was likely to lose today. Pick your spots CCC.

At the officiating, you mean? Or at his guys?

Because there were a handful of outright awful calls against NU down the stretch, and not even any makeup calls.

It's a general complaint I have about CCC, but I give it to him this game because he's been composed this year and this is the first conference game against a top ten team (ken pom).

NU played excellent defense and did get screwed out of a couple calls. Too many turnovers, not enough made three pointers.

But, got to say, feel great about this performance. Feeling real good about Bouie, Beran and Young. Ecstatic how Nance played. It's a nice team. Deeper than last year's. More talent.

So I’m traveling for work and recorded the game to watch on my tablet. I’m bummed I missed it although from comments sounds like a ugly game, and officiating against NU is frustrating to endure (and unfortunately part of our DNA).

I’m really excited by many of the comments: defense, Buie, and that Young held his own against top B1G play? I’m big on Young, but was dying to see him against top level competition. Also surprised by the comments regarding Spencer-no one indicated it looked like an off game for him, huh? I suspect he’ll adjust, and continue to exceed expectations. But awesome to hear Buie’s ceiling keeps rising.

Feels like I’m in for a painful “rewatch”, but of course I must (part of my DNA).

I didn’t see any big problem with officiating, maybe a little home cooking but not the difference.

I like Young as well, but I think you would have been disappointed by Young's play today. He was owned at times on the boards, was blocked several times and missed on several short shots and putbacks. Baskets and rebounds will be harder to come by for Young in the Big Ten.

Line: 3 pts, 1-7 on FGs (0-3 from 3), 1-2 on FTs, 7 rebounds, 3 assts, 3 TOs, 2 blocks, 1 steal.
