I was 23 and never dreamed that was most likely the greatest team record and year I would ever witness for UK football. Even though we were on probation we destroyed the SEC. Sad for you younger guys who most likely we never see a season like that one. It is a shame and disgrace that this football program can't succeed.

Man the SEC looked like crap that year. I'm not taking anything away from that Kentucky team, but have we ever played a weaker SEC schedule than that? At least we had a team that took advantage of it unlike these Stoops' teams. The SEC teams we played had a 30-36-1 overall record between them. That Baylor loss was bad, but the Penn St win was very impressive. So close to a perfect season.

WVU was actually a very talented team that had some bad breaks over the course of the season. I was at that game and we fell behind something like 13-0 but came but to dominate the second half. North Carolina was a very good team as well.

I envy you old timers who were alive to witness it. We definitely appreciate y'all sharing your memories of those good times though. It gives us a little hope....maybe we'll get to see a '77 or '50 Wildcat team in our lifetime.

We actually had a dominating defense at that time, something that's been lacking since then. Art Still, Dallas Owens, Richard Jaffe, Mike Siganos, etc. were some of the names I recall from the defense. It was very obvious that they lost at Baylor due to the intense heat on the field. I believe it was something around 120 degrees at game time. Not making excuses but they just weren't acclimated to that type of temperature.s

We beat them the year before that also...think we went 8-3 and beat UNC in the Peach Bowl. Charlie Bradshaw's D was unbelievable.

I still remember the Baylor game though.
Right, shut out UNC 21-0 in the Peach bowl with Rod Stewart (not the singer) as the MVP. I believe he had something like 147 yards rushing that game but the defense was dominant.
