Rhule has stated several times that he likes the flexibility of a 3-man front. However, that does not extend to how an odd front is usually recruited, where typically big run pluggers are favored. Tony White did not have that type of NT at Syracuse, but of course the Orange are not a bit destination for such players. He lucked into having a true nose in Nash and Ty was also a bit of a mutant at the heavy end spot. It just seems the guys on the roster now look for typical for a 4 man front. I will say that Nwaneri and Davis are growing into prototypical ends for a 3 man front.

Exactly this. We have 2 very very good ends for a 335. We need the NG. We jave the right LB for it in Shavers, Wright, McCullough. DBs, check. This def is a true 320#NG 3 tech feom being as good as any in the country.
It sets up this way next year too. Need Sanders to take over at CB, Hartz or Jones at Nick, and Marshal at other CB. Safety may be wildcard next year depending on Caleb developement. We need high end safety in this D too. I see Merritt taking the MLB spot.
Get a NT and Safety in portal and defensively will be very salty next year.

Totally agree with you guys, but there are a couple guys on the roster that I'm curious to see develop as potential run pluggers. Tyson Terry atop the list, but also Lefotu, Malcolm Simpson and Jaylen George just from looking at highlights and body types. Maybe Gabe Moore. Tired of seeing guys that are 6'5" 285 getting their azzes run over in the middle. I've not been a RVP fan this season, but he still might get better in the run game with another year of eating and banging weights.

It looks like Nwaneri and Pietrzak will be monsters next year, so it will be fun to see if we can find a big boy in the middle. No doubt there are some young guys on the roster that will be better in 9 months.

By the looks of the BIG teams on NU's schedule next year, especially since the PTB can load it in a way where things get very, very difficult, the overall team next year best be really salty.
Its possible, next year Matt could have his BEST NU team ever and still go 6-6 or 7-5.

A theoretical run of 5 weeks of ILL, WASH, ORE, IND and OSU could be the tougest schedule in the country. Even a helluva team would maybe go 2-3 in that stretch.

Having said that, if there's real stud at a non BIG school that would like the ultimate challenge, come aboard and prove your worth. What we currently have will not stand up to that type of physical challenge.

Most of those calories are fat.
Jim Pillen was listed at over 200 lbs when he played “monster” in the late 70s. He was not a big guy. He looked kind of pudgy back then. I don’t think Jim is over 5’9” and yes I know him. Lots of PBJ or PBR. Not sure which. My frat brother O lineman talked about how much they pushed PBJ snacks. 5 meals a day.

I was getting some knee rehab one morning and Rathman was in the training room trying to get someone to go have donuts.

Typical PNB sandwich has 41% fat, 13% protein, and 46% carbs. You don't built muscle with 13% protein.
You obviously can't build muscle out of fat which is the first thing burned, and the second burn is the carbs, so the 13% protein doesn't contribute.

The protein, at that level, is too busy rebuilding the muscle harm done in the workout, drill, exercise. What's left behind are the fat calories.

Not starting an argument, but why just a few years back was the NBA having stories about pbj as their go to food?

Personally I ate pbj nearly every day at work for 40 years.

Am surprised to hear negative thinhs about it. Whole grain bread, Adams pb and rasperberry jelly or jam was my favorite. Still is in fact 😊

PBJ and maybe some yogurt or cheese and Ritz for lunch = weight loss.

Ha, weight loss has never been an issue. I was blessed with a metabolism that allows me to eat what I want, whenever I want it.
Commercial construction was my exercise, and was always tall and slender.

A doctor I knew well was same build, and described part of it as he and I not having as efficient of an extraction mechanism in our gut, as those that have propensity to gain weight while trying not to.

Not really an argument, just that the PNB is more for quick energy but not for weight gain as someone stated earlier.

The number of calories required for a growing young athlete who is doing extreme workouts is astronomical. I wasn’t discussing the science of pbj and beer. I was just relaying what they did to try to put weight on or keep it. The goal for linemen wasn’t a 5% body fat. It was size. I’m not sure exactly what different anabolics do in humans but in cattle on high carb and fat diets they favor muscle gain over fat deposition in addition to improved average daily weight gain. There is no doubt that some Huskers were using anabolics when I was at NU.

Illinois and Wash are the swing games between 7-5 or 9-3. Would have to upset Oregon, Indiana, or OSU to change that. Lose to only those 3 and we would be happy.

That's not taking into account another version of the effort in the 2023 UCLA game at home or the 2024 Minnesota game on the road. Those are the types of games NU must eliminate in order to be in that 9-3 or 10-2 range. No slip ups.
