Anyone watching? Great one tonight!
I watched it. It was great! I love it every time we beat we beat Canada. I think this 4 nation thing was just an excuse for them to play each other. Although I hate missing my Blues play for two weeks. Though it looks like they won't make the playoffs again. I wonder if the Canadian anthem will be booed when it moves to Boston. Then again, of course it will. 🙂

I'm sure the Canadian anthem will be booed. I missed the first half of the first period yesterday. 3 fights in 9 sec. Wow. Love watching the brothers play together. They definitely have a lot of heart.

Also like the wide open play. Unlike NHL games, there are rarely penalties so non-stop action.

I think the wide open play is the result of the teams having no practice time together. Just their natural talent and instincts at work.

I grew a penguins fan. I used to go see them play pre-Mario. We would buy $3 seats and sit anywhere we wanted at the igloo. That certainly changed once they drafted Mario.
Lemieux was everything Gretzky was not. He was big, strong, and fast. He would be the record holder if he hadn't gotten sick. I also liked the Pens uniforms better when they were blue. I bet you don't though. 🙂 But that was before Mario's time.

I like the current colors : ).

I am partial, but I think Mario was the better player in his prime / healthy. I used to love reading the morning paper and keeping up with the points race between he and Gretzky.

The year Gretzky scored 92 goals I believe he had about 20 empty net ones. The year Brett Hull scored 86 he had zero empty nets. He scored the most goals in a season that actually beat NHL goaltenders. 🙂

We didn't get a single power play did we?
No. Canada only had one. Should have had one in OT for too many men on the ice. Very clear, and the extra man touched the puck. As in most sports, the refs swallowed their whistle in crunch time.

No complaints regarding the refs. Fun to watch the open play with very few whistles. We dominated the OT but their goalie shut us down. Maybe next year 😃!

It's not a championship in any meaningful sense. I guess we can still be friends with Canada since they beat us on the second attempt.

I am as American as they come but they beat us in the one that mattered. Pride is a very meaningful sense.

Their goalie was my St. Louis Blues goalie. Still wanted him to lose the game but he came up big. Especially against Matthews.

Tough loss last night. But let’s be real, this gives the US a ton of motivation heading into the one we really want to win, and are actually capable of winning…The Olympics. Next year should be crazy. Hoping things calm down between Russia and Ukraine so the Russian team can compete as well. I’d say they are probably right there with Canada as best in the world and their players play a more emotional and entertaining brand of hockey. Amazing how you can see the different styles from culture to culture. But if we are going to win the gold medal, I hope we do it with a full field. Best chance since the Vancouver games to win it all. Haven’t won gold since 1980 in Lake Placid.

There will be a lot of teams capable of medaling next year. We knew we had as good as a team as we’ve ever had. Need Matthews to score more in a tournament of that length. He had some great OT chances and got stopped. Of course, he was also the one that let the best player in Hockey get wide open in front of the net in OT. But that happens…just a brutal time for it to happen. Canada’s stars always come up clutch. Crosby in Vancouver. McDavid last night. Matthews is a great player…we’ll need him to play awesome.

Hope many folks in this country saw just how awesome of a sport ice hockey is. If you’ll give it a real chance, and find a team to pull for, you’ll get hooked. The playoffs often have the same intensity, if not more when you consider the hits and choppiness that add up over 4-7 games.

You may like the Tkachuck brothers for the US team, but they are hard to like on their teams in the NHL, especially Brady in Ottawa.

We really missed Mathew Tkachuk last night.

I played growing up- mostly backyard pond hockey Played basketball in college but I would take hockey all day, every day over basketball.

Never forget when the we took down the Russians. I could tell you exactly where I was at that moment.

I remember exactly where I was as well. Those in attendance say that was the most electric atmosphere they ever experienced.
The game wasn’t shown live. I remember seeing the crawl across the bottom of the screen saying we had won. Then watched it later that night.

Although not broadcast live, it was shown in its entirety that night during prime time.
Most did not know of the result beforehand.
Why didn't they just look up the score on their phones? 🤣

It seems unimaginable now that a winter games played in the US would not have the US and Soviet team team going at it in primetime. It illustrates how much simpler things were back then. I guess the networks just broadcast the games back then, without having major input in shaping the schedule of the games. I was in the first grade and have to admit that I did not watch the game when it was broadcast. You see, that was a Friday night, which means the game had the unfortunate fate of going up against The Incredible Hulk and The Dukes of Hazzard. For my 6 year old self, the Hulk and the Dukes, back-to-back, was as compelling as primetime TV could be.

No "friday night videos"?
