This morning I read an article in the Tulsa World saying that was Iowa State's record against Oklahoma prior to yesterday's game and it put what happened yesterday into a different perspective for me. It made me think about the images of the Iowa State players and coaches when they stopped OU on fourth down on their final possession. It made me think of the images of the fans and players celebrating after the game. It made me think of the image of the Iowa flag planted at midfield. It made me think about how happy I was when I went to South Bend a few years ago and watched OU beat Notre Dame and how I thought later that night in the restaurant/bar I was in that the trip was once in a lifetime and had been worth every penny. It made me think about how happy OU fans must have been in Columbus a few weeks ago. Finally, it made me forget about my disappointment about yesterday's outcome and it made me happy for them, the Iowa State players, coaches, and fans.

5-74-2. Think about that for a minute and let it sink in. Imagine all of those losses for those fans. Imagine the hopelessness. I'm 42 years old and I've never in my life attended or tuned in for an OU game thinking we couldn't win. Even during the John Blake years. Being an OU fan always gave me the expectation that we could win on any given Saturday. But Iowa State fans, I imagine they had no thoughts of winning yesterday's game prior to kickoff.

Think about the travels and the money spent of fans of schools such as Iowa State. The commitment through the years made knowing that their team was going to get it's teeth kicked in by Oklahoma, Nebraska, Texas, etc. And yesterday, the commitment paid off. I bet those Iowa State fans that stuck around Norman after the game had the time of their lives last night.

Remember how great you thought it was when Appalachian State beat Michigan, or when Liberty beat Baylor, or South Alabama beat Mississippi State, etc? We all loved those upsets. It's what makes sports so great. So it happened to us yesterday. Sure it sucks, and I said to my brother after the game that it put a cloud over the enjoyment of the rest of my college football Saturday. But we'll be fine and we'll expect to win every game that comes after yesterday. We're lucky that way, we're OU fans. Our season is still not over. We can still win the conference and still make the playoff. And with the the way our coaches are recruiting the future looks very bright. But today, I'm happy for Iowa State and I hope they woke up on top of the world this morning.

One of the better posts I've read here.
I share the same respect and admiration for Mike Campbell and his Iowa State team.
I do not share any optimism however on the OU program right now. We lost this game on the field and on the sidelines. Two weeks of this crap has me thinking Texas will defeat OU decisively on Saturday, especially after watching them play last night.
I may be watching Netflix before the RRR game ends.

To the victor goes the spoils as they say but that loss is not so much what is worrying me as what comes next for OU. That loss brought to a head quite a few problems we already knew existed. As much as I can be happy for them and their fans I am just as unhappy and uncertain about us right now. The Sooners say they know what to do when their backs are against the wall. I wish they knew what to do to keep that from happening every year.

Just to juxtapose this for my 'thorn', I say again: the Cy-Hawk series is 10-9 after 19 years of the mighty Ferentz...

I'm an ISU fan, and honestly, I had no expectations of winning the game at any point during the game. When it was 4th and 4 I was still assuming that Mayfield was going to make a play and OU was going to drive down for a TD and win in OT. I was utterly shocked at the end, and let me assure you, there were huge swaths of ISU fans that felt the same way. I appreciate the thread and the sentiment.

Let me say that I have tremendous respect for OU, my father in law grew up in Oklahoma and was a die hard OU fan. I've been to memorial stadium many times and IMO it's the best environment I've ever been to for CFB. I was there in 2002 when ISU had Seneca Wallace and were ranked #9, when OU simply showed ISU didn't belong on the same field.

Huge loss for OU yesterday but IMO everything is still on the table for the team and program, including the CFB playoff.

Good luck always to the Clones, especially against the hawx. Your guys had them in the bag earlier this year until the end. I hope your guys get a decent bowl and win it this year. Rhoads deserved it and your new coach does too.

Been a sooner fan for sixty three years. If there was ever a team that OU took for granted in terms of winning it was Iowa State. I recall the 1990 ISU win over OU. The ISU QB was very emotional after the game saying something to the effect that this win was for all those previous players and teams who had suffered all those losses. I was at the game Saturday and as much as I ached afterward I gained a whole new respect for ISU players and fans.

Nice message McBrider. One has to give Iowa State respect for playing a good game. Their fans deserved it.
The Big 12 needs more of its members to step up and hang with the "bullies". Iowa State and Mike Campbell will be interesting to follow this year.
