Oh Barnes. Eh, meh…..he’s at Tennessee for a reason. He’s not elite. He should have already retired but he can’t hang it up. Barnes was the most underachieving coach I think I’ve ever seen. Definitely not one of the best. Plays an old cheap brand, not impressive, teams can’t score about 60 half the time.
I think Barnes is a good coach, not great. He’s definitely not in any of those conversations. Like I said, he should have already retired he’s too old for this. Needs to go home with his family. His time is over. Doesn’t really matter what happens at this point, Barnes is what he is.
There’s a reason you’re on a blue blood board who’s won for 100 years and nobody named him. There’s a reason a Tennessee fan who’s never seen a final four thinks he’s in that class. And that’s not me being mean, I don’t think y’all have a full grasp of college basketball. If you did you wouldn’t call Barnes elite. To me, he tried to leave Tennessee and when he wasn’t able to do that it was the end of him having a shot. At the same time, he definitely should have never been fired at Texas he was too good for that. He’s great for UT, probably shouldn’t have taken it. He’s aware of that too. But that’s my honest assessment. You can’t coach as long as he has and have no hardware (nearly none) and be elite.
