This debate got started among my friends after Shaq was named the number 4 best NBA Center of all time and I tried to argue he would overpower everyone else on the list so he should be #1. So we started a debate about the most physically dominant athletes we had seen. Basically guys and gals who just overpower their opposition. The top 5 in my lifetime in no order due to different sports.

Shaq
Serena Williams
Barry Bonds on roids
90's and early 00's Tiger Woods
Randy Moss

George Foreman was a monster for his day. Pretty impressive that he could come back and regain the title at age 48. Ali and Larry Holmes (two of the greatest) were pathetic in their late 30's (Ali) and early 40's (Holmes). Not Big George. Check out his knockouts of Ken Norton (4:40 mark) and Joe Frazier (5:50 mark). Both men were champs and in their prime. Just destroyed.

Earl Campbell. Nobody punished/embarrassed would be tacklers like Earl.

Lawrence Taylor was almost unblockable. I believe that he is the last defensive player to win league MVP.

Stephie Graf. GOAT thanks to her powerful forehand. Graf won 107 titles (including 22 Grand Slams) in her 17 year career. Her win loss record for singles was 900-115. Compare those to Serena Williams numbers over 21 years (4 more). Williams has 69 titles (21 GS) and a win loss of 737-123. Graph also held the world's #1 ranking for 337 weeks (6.48 years) the longest streak for a man or woman ever.

Matina Navratilova had the biggest forearms in men or women's tennis. He /She was such a power v/s finesse match against little, pretty, Chrissy Everett.

As far as physical specimen goes, Bruce Smith was definitely juicing. Dexter Manley also, truth be told.

Thinking of Manley, John Riggins Redskins fb was a damn brut, much like Earl Campbell mentioned a few post before. But Walter Peyton had both, power and grace. Plus he was the first to advertise Kangaroos turf shoes. Those and Tony Dorsett's Pony turf shoes made me feel like I was them when wearing them as a young teenager. I really thought I had their moves simply because of those damn turn shoes.

Good call on Big George. man he could hit. After the way he destroyed Frasier, people were honestly afraid he might literally kill Ali. Has there ever been an athlete whose image/persona has changed more - from Most Menacing Man on Earth TM to Loveable George? Probably OJ, and that's the list. Tyson could absolutely pulverize as well, he and Foreman were the two biggest hitters I can remember....

I agree on a few....

Shaq
Serena
Bo Jackson
Tiger Woods
Now the NFL is a tough one because of the many different positions, but at WR Calvin Johnson tops Randy Moss as far as physical goes, QB would be Big Ben or Cam, RB would be AP, defense I would say James Harrison.

Key word is "athlete". To me, that does not mean best in sport but someone who would excel at many sports.

Lebron James (would be an All Pro TE or WR in the NFL, excellent track athlete, etc)
Jim Brown- his resume speaks for itself
Bo Jackson- All Pro/All Star in both the NFL and MLB Could play just about anything.
Jim Thorpe- What didn't he excel at.

Last one is tough. You have some great athletes who dominated their sports. Jordan, Pele, Phelps, Bolt, Williams, Tyson list goes on. Jordan may have been a great baseball player but his stint in the minors cast some doubt.

I have the right to change my mind, but Tiger Woods may be on this list. He DOMINATED golf for a decade. His influence on the game will reach many generations to come. Many highly respected folks said he had the ability to have been a very good football player if he wanted. Not sure I agree but I will trust what those individuals said.

Football is the toughest sport to pick. At QB you almost gotta go with Cam, he is big and tough. Peterson is the closest at RB, but gotta go with an old guy like Earl Campbell or something.

Yeah really, takes a lot more than power to be the best center I would probably put Shaq 5ff on my list. Granted I have no business making a list because outside of a few snippets and hearsay I never saw Wilt/Russell play and was but a wee lad when Kareems career was winding down. But give me those 3 and Hakeem over Shaq,

Triple G is the most physically dominant athlete on the planet right now. 34-0. 31 by KO. Nobody wants to f'k with Triple G. Any of these so called "strikers" from MMA . . . he would kill any of them. Probably literally.

LeBron James
Bo Jackson
Jim Brown
Serena Williams
Wilt Chamberlain

I don't see Bo Jackson as being dominate. He was a very good two sport pro (which is rare) but he didn't dominate either sport. In baseball, he was a .250 hitter who was always swinging for the fences. Yet he only hit +30 HRs one year. In pro football, he never had 1,000 yard rushing season and only scored 18 TD in his four year career. He only made the Pro-Bowl one year and the MLB All-Star game also one time. That is not dominant in either sport and doesn't belong in either hall of fame. The rest of your list is spot on.
