50 years ago today (10/21/75) I made the worst decision in my entire life...

I was ten years old and my dad came to me and said, "I have two tickets to a Red Sox playoff game and two tickets to the upcoming Notre Dame vs BC football game... you're the oldest son so you choose and your little brother goes to the other". Knowing my dad was a double domer and die hard ND fan I choose the football game... and my 7 year old brother attended game 6 of the 1975 World Series (Fisk home run off the foul pole), widely regarded as the greatest WS game ever played. To make matters worse, Carlton Fisk was my baseball hero.

I haven't made a smart choice since.

I was pretty much proposed to by a girl I dated who's Dad was a member at Pine Valley, Augusta, and Cypress Point. I asked her once what her family did and she said my GGGDaddy was with some men who started this company called Georgia Pacific.

For years when I talked to my Dad during Masters weekend, he'd remind me that we'd be in a cabin on the grounds right now if I had any brains.

This is what holding out for Cheryl Ladd gets you.
Nuttin'. No. She was actually beautiful, and her family owned a mountain (Sapphire Valley in NC) at one point. I went on to a Brazilian model named Renate` (no lie) where we went to Palm Beach every weekend to see drunk Kennedy's and Vodka ice luges. Maura ended up moving back to Atlanta. Patty Bowman was there. We all knew her from Jupiter. Jury actually got one right there.

But if she looked like Ms Piggy then you made the right call.

In the 80’s, I was a “college relations” manager for a Fortune 500 company. I met an interesting lady (divorced) who just seemed too “classy” for the job, the college and the location. We got friendly (not that friendly) and had a few lunch and dinner dates. She “moved on”. Later, I was talking to one of her co-workers and I asked if she knew where “Mary-Lynne” was. She said no but then said “you know she is a Vanderbilt”. I said “she said she graduated from Bucknell”. The co-worker said, “no…. she is a Vanderbilt”!
