Your comment fits right in with the theme of this OP. Literally every year, there are rumors about what is going on with Manning. Dude is a mystery every year, and every year somebody is commenting on this mystery man. I hope he puts it all together this year and destroys.

It's that time of the year when coaches, players and the media say the darnedest things.

For example, how about this annual goody, "We learned a lot from last year and this year is gonna be different."

This one usually sets off the laugh-o-meter, "[insert name] is playing lights out!" (The kid never cracks the 2-deep.)

Last one, [Insert name] is dominating in practice, no one can stop him. (An FBS player shuts him out in game one.)

Unless one of them gets injured. And unless you have a returning veteran starter, I'd don't think they ever should anoint a starting QB before Fall camp.

And in Adrian's case he always was better when he felt some heat for the starting job. Unfortunately there usually wasn't a credible threat to his starting role.
