OK let's go for it. One of our current running threads mentions Jack and Nate James as Duke's best 6th. man. This could be interesting. Nominees are in as Duke's best 6th man. For all the things he can do I think it's Jack White. He's still has another year also but who knows he may turn into a starter. Jack is so recent and it's easy to remember his contributions and no doubt there will be names that come up and I will say yeah he was a really good 6th man. OFC

Sky, I love jack and what he has done this year, but Nate James! The squads Nate played on alone gives him the best 6 man to me. Those teams was loaded and if you got any playing time, especially 6th man, then you had to be pretty good. If I remember correct, he started a lot during his career.

Nate began the year as a starter. K put Duhon in the starting lineup and switched Nate to 6th man and the rest is history! Accepting that "demotion" as a senior maybe gives the title to Nate. Being replaced by a Freshman during your Senior year is a tough pill to swallow.

And he handled it will nothing but class. Nate was a beast all around.

Nate was a little like Jack this year. His toughness and shooting ability allowed K to sub him at the 2, 3, and 4. K only needed someone else for the 5 whenever Boozer was out. K does almost the same thing with Jack this year. What we need this year is a better sub for Tre. Hopefully, that works itself out. 01 didn't need to sub for PG because we had 2 in William's and Duhon.

Didn't Cherokee Parks come off the bench early as freshman? It seems like when he came in Laettner went to the outside more. It's been a while and I can't exactly remember his role as a freshman. By the way his #44 is retired. :) OFC

Cherokee had a nasty high ankle sprain his frosh year that kept him out a bit early on and really hurt his year.

Wasn't a 6th man but we wouldn't have the 2010 title if not for Andre Dawkins hitting big threes.
Also, Amile Jefferson. Started the beginning of the 2015 year, when K inserted Matt Jones and brought Amile off the bench..we took off. Amile could have complained about his role, instead he chose to shut down Frank the Tank in the title game!

My rule: if you started less than 50% of the games you played, you're eligible for the 6th man (ie: not Nate James).

6 Guys for 6th Man:
1. Corey Maggette, 1999
2. Christian Laettner, 1989
3. Chris Duhon, 2001
4. Daniel Ewing, 2003
5. Jack White, 2019
6. Jon Scheyer, 2008

I can't believe evil K held Laettner back like that. Can you imagine what he could have done in college if he would have had the opportunity to play more?:p

It kind of shows how strong some of those teams were though with a few of the names on that list. Also a bit how times have changed with players leaving a little earlier and freeing up those starting spots.

Yes, he did....his sophomore year.
I was going to mention Jon as a soph. He won 6th man for the ACC? For some reason I thought it was...

Nate had that quiet stare. Nobody challenged him. Jack has the Aussie snarl! Bet Nate encourages it.

He had that stare on the bench in the 1st. half at Wake tonight. In fact he has that stare most of the time. OFC

5 blocks last night for Jack. Didn't score, but still had s huge impact on the game! Cam needs to follow Jack around all day, eat what Jack eats, drink what Jack drinks, stop pronouncing his Rs and become the player we have been waiting for!
