I don’t know, if they are play in games who cares? I love March Madness. Watching teams play out of their minds in desperation. Unless someone can point to how this hurts UK Im all for the little guys getting an opportunity to experience the tourney.

It's just more meaningless play n games. Real dance is still 64.

I think a bunch of high major playins basically would make the tournament more fun

When the NCAA went to 48 it created a system that was unbalanced and created a number of upsets involving lower seeded teams winning because they had already gone through the first game jitters. Whether this might happened with 64-76 teams is probably less likely.

Expanding to 76 in basketball is better than the 82 football teams going to a bowl game. IMO. How many people are watching Slippery Rock vs. Midwestern Valley in the Toilet Bowl?

It’s going to 96 before its over. Revenue sharing made this a necessity. The only answer for a business that just gave up a third of its revenue for rev sharing is to have 1/3 more games.

Just more of the maximize mindset plaguing the entire country. The tournament should be 32 teams. It should have never expanded in the first place past that. They’ll just continue doing this until all teams are in the tournament and game to game means nothing.
Absolutely agree!! 32 is plenty. 4 regions, 8 teams each.

Everyone is always going to gripe about this and it will always be for the wrong reasons.

This is not about letting in weaker teams than what’s already in the tourney. This is about letting in some of the middlin teams who get displaced every year by super weak teams that get in on automatic bids from super weak conferences.

Tournament expansion is not designed to bring in more 'little guys' ... it's designed to bring in more middle-of-the-pack power conference teams that will add more eyeballs on games and better TV ratings (and therefore more advertising dollars) than adding more 'little guys' will.

While you are correct that ship sailed years ago.

since Elvis shoot his hips, everything has gone to ****. You can literally trace back to that and the world has gone mad. Those boomers were told it wasn’t a good idea. You can literally blame boomers for the majority of problems today including the expanding tournament.

It’s really about TV contracts and saving coaches jobs.

Their parents were the GOATS. My wife and I talk about it a lot. I used to think old people were all the same until I realized how different my grandparents generation was to my parents (boomers). Night and day, hate it for our kids that they didn’t experience the Greats. Some of them let their guard down with their own kids and narcissism just ran wild is my thinking. They(Greats) had it so bad they just wanted their kids to not worry. Ended up forming the first narcissistic generation. We’re all gonna have to clean up the mess. First generation leaving everything worse than they found it.

*Thid is not to necessarily insult every boomer. There have been known to be a decent few.

True, that’s sort of what I meant by little guys. Guys that would otherwise never see the tourney. It can still be some good ball to watch and easy to ignore if you don’t like it.

Yeah I know plenty of great ones, I was honestly shocked how many vote for the stupidity we see now.

You have it backwards. The Boomers are the second greatest generation. Don’t know old you and Fox are but you are obviously not in our generation and when we are gone you all will be living in a society of selfish, I don’t want to work babbling idiots. Most of your generation will be wanting handouts, participation trophy’s or anything to make their life easier without having to earn it. Hospital care and any type of customer service will be the worst. Then you will wish we Boomers were still around because you will never have the good again that we were able to provide. You guys seem ok but your thinking is a little skewed. 😉😉

I don’t think all Boomers are bad but they are the generation with the most wealth and the only ones who seem to not want to provide it to their kids. Many studies and reports show how much they want to hang on to all of it until death for some reason. I am shocked how many boomers support the current left agenda. So many rich liberal boomers it is baffling to me. I guess what they say is true. Hard times create strong men, Strong men make good times, good times create weak men, and weak men create hard times". This seems to be accurate. Like I said I know many great Boomers and like everything it’s like half and half but I’d expect more logical thinking from such a generation as that. But we have already derailed this thread enough. I don’t want it to devolve into worse than it has.

Depends on your goal.

If the goal was to pick the best team of the year, 16 is plenty. 12 play in, 4 at large.

If the goal is to make as much money as possible, then 128 or 256.

Guess which direction this is going…

Well the decent few comment was meant to be a joke. Of course, Boomers had their own trials like the Vietnam war where many great men were sent to die for nothing. But in return, many Boomers sat back quietly while we’ve fought war after war, bankrupting the country, then absolutely allowing SS to run dry to which most of them say when polled - needs to be strong for them and the rest can figure it out. They are the first generation in American history to leave the nation worse than they found it.

Boomers are absolutely, factually, not even close to the second greatest generation. Culturally they are more on point than others, but certainly not fiscally. And the reason they are more on point there is largely due their parents belief systems.

The the erosion of the middle class, unsustainable housing prices (due directly to boomers and that’s factually accurate) due to factors like stricter zoning laws that the majority of boomers supported, university system, economy, culture, and corruption, political corruption and gridlock is worse off and at all time highs due to their rein. The greats left it great, the boomers are leaving it worse than it’s been. Poll after poll shows it’s not only accurate, but widely believed among all generations. The greats were revered , the boomers are a punch line to the generations after. When I was growing up in the 90’s, we gave the ultimate respect to the greats. They were seen and treated as royalty. The boomers? It’s not happening the same way. Most youth see the older generation as something to get away from. It’s just the truth. We largely wanted to be around the greats.

I won’t derail either and I know a lot of great boomers, but they aren’t close, not even In their wildest dream, to their parents. They are the first generation in American history to leave the country worse than they found it.

This is not all of them, so don’t take it personally. You might be one of the ones that did it right. But there’s no reason for this nation to be this bad off. There’s too many resources. Like the housing situation, directly tied to boomers receiving an excellent market and draining it dry. And it’s largely due to greed. They took advantage of the great era left by their parents and they are not even trying to pass that on. That is the problem, they don’t even try. They just maximized for themselves. But I do know some great men who do for others, not just for themsleves, that are boomers. I’m strictly talking as a whole to be general. One of the greatest men I’ve ever met is a boomer. He sold his house for the same price he bought it to a family he never knew. We need more of that.

I know a few great men who are boomers, so again, it’s not all. But it is factually accurate to say the generation as a whole, to date, is one of the worst. I don’t like saying it, but I know quite a few boomers who agree with it. This doesn’t even touch the political system which we could go on and on. I think one of the problems, just to name one, that happened was the greats DID make one massive mistake that hurt us all politically. They put their kids into academic settings during the rise of the com******st element infiltrating the university system and sat back. But that’s for another topic and another thread.

As for the younger generations, Gen X and Xllenials will be dealing with that mess. I’m class of 04, 90’s kid 80’s baby. we played football in 100 degrees, fought a war, and played with ashtrays on the table at McDonald’s while eating happy meals. Don’t throw that on us papaw.
