Congrats to Coach Collins and the team for another modern day milestone. Now...let's make it worth something and finish out strong!

That Carmody team did win 9 if you count the Big Ten Tournament. They beat Penn St. in the opening round for their 9th.

So the answer is 2004.

The question is the last time we won 10, which I think was 1931
The last time we won 9 REGULAR SEASON B1G games was 1933.

I was not sure we ever had. I knew 2004 was 8-8 and when we were doing well, fewer games were playd.

They were 8-64 in the Big Ten when I was there, so this year has been extraordinarily special! Keep it going!

It was the 1985-86 season through 1988-89, although 1995 was a similarly dark era. My most vivid memory of my NU basketball experience was Bill Foster calling timeout during those inevitable runs by whoever we were playing.

Same years for me. Was terrible because I truly enjoyed going to basketball and football games, but the football team was bad and the basketball team worse. Remember when Walker Lambiotte was going to save us? Lol.

He saved us from going 0-18!

1995 was the year of starting PG Jevon Johnson, right?

In 1931 NU was 11-1 in conference, 16-1 overall. NU lost to Illinois at home for their only blemish. They were considered the National Champions that year.

God bless Walker Lambiotte! That dude could play. (Class of '92 checking in).
Had the pleasure of being introduced to him at the game last night. Seems like a terrific guy, and very enthused about the program's direction.

Lambiotte and NU would have had a lot more success if he hadn't suffered the bad knee injury before coming to Evanston. Question for NU BB historians... who was NU's starting center before Rucklick arrived? I ask because he was supposedly sitting a couple of seats from me last night.

What year was it when Foster had virtually the whole team transter? 89? We had Rex Walters who was leading the Big Ten in scoring and transferred to Kansas. Then our redshirt stud transferred to BYU. We were left with Todd Leslie to lead the team. I am convinced that if Foster simply had kept that team intact, we would have gone to the tourney while I was still a student. Oh well. No use looking back now. CC has me believing that this year may certainly be our year to shine.

That team had Lambiotte and Schwabe - who were upperclassmen, then Walters, David Holmes, and Evan Pedersen along with Kevin Nixon. The latter 4 all transferred - Kansas, Rice, St. Louis, BYU. Sad!

I would start this sentence with "No offense to Bill Foster but" but that would be dishonest: When Foster took the NU job, that guy was more washed up than Boy George.

89, we sucked. We had Lambiotte and Schwabe.

Walters, Holmes, Pedersen and Nixon led the 90 team. Each of those ended up starting for an NCAA tourney team.

12+ B1G wins: never
11: 1931
10: 1933
9: 1916, 1928, 1932, 2017
At the risk of stating the obvious, the 9-win reg season 'milestone' isn't very significant, because the B1G season length has varied through the decades. Not too long ago (early in BC's tenure) a B1G team only played 16 league games per season. It was 18 before that, but only 14 farther back, and only 12 when NU won the B1G back in the early 30's, with records of 11-1 and 10-2. Presumably those NU teams would have won 1/3 more games in an 18-game season. 11-1 is roughly equivalent to 16-2 o 17-1.
