I need skills son, and your ability to break down gender roles, Irish literature, and Pan-African issues are not skills.

This reminded me of how much I'm going to miss this show.

I wonder what his parents look like. Like, what spawned that?

Also, he is 51. Holy ****.

Chairman of the Board is a 1998 comedy film directed by Alex Zamm, starring Courtney Thorne-Smith and Carrot Top. In the film, a surfer and inventor named Edison inherits and runs a billionaire's company. It was poorly received by both critics and audiences.

Stunning, really.

This is a stunning indictment of CT.

I have never understood about how dumb some people coming out of college can really be. I have a degree and therefore I am smarter than you and deserve a much higher paying job. Who cares that the degree was in basket weaving or African American Studies at UNC. That makes me better than you. The same people are also the ones who blast Trump because he thinks he is better that everyone else. He did after all create Trump University.

There are lots of cool things in the world to learn. In my opinion if you're going to shell out $50,000 for 4 years of education you better learn something that someone else will pay you for. Things like philosophy, literature, history, etc are all things that are hobbies imo. I can learn them on my own time by reading books and traveling.

No, just a reality major.
The humanities, arts, political science, english and history degrees make up about 10% of degrees earned. Virtually unchanged since 1970. Fail to see how the current generation should be characterized as having worthless majors when it's the same for their predecessors.

Oh, wait... It's because boomers are judgmental and hypocritical.

And you're going to have to forgive kids who thought going to college should put them a rung ahead of their peers that just flaked out and were forced into the workforce after their post graduation summer bender was over. They were brainwashed their entire lives that they just had to go to college for their wildest dreams to come true... By a government that was only interested in making them financial pawns and shackling them to non dischargeable student loans at a cost that was 300% over inflation beyond the cost their parents incurred.

But please. Don't let me interrupt you parroting your fox news ********.

My experience which was a few decades ago is that many of those with BS majors came from more affluent families and were thinking more of their "intellectual curiosity" over how to someday pay the bills. They were living on daddy's nickle and were there mostly to party and have a good time. Maybe times have changed but somehow i doubt it.

I'd love to ask some of the kids what they were thinking when they got their degree in cultural studies or geography. Of course, none of them do anything with those degrees.

My BIL does pretty well with a geography degree with GIS emphasis. He was military also, for 10 years.

My wife's cousin has a degree in geography and his career has nothing to do with it. Your BIL seems sharp and has some other things/experience going for him as well.

Do you think student loans should be based on the possibility of actually paying the loan back with the degree you choose?

I know a young guy that did all the things his parents told him to do. Graduated 5 years ago and has held a variety of jobs, but none in his field. He's pissed. His problem? Refused to move away from his home town. In fact, I could have helped him get a job in his field (150 miles away), but he would not move. Getting a degree is a big help, but you still have to be willing to make other sacrifices.
Yes, there are a lot more bogus degrees now than there were when I began college in '76. Sure, there were all the crap degrees you've mentioned but now we have winners such as recording studio technology, sports administration, administrative counseling. Tons more. Part of it is the fault of the government. The gov should not have made loans available for bogus degrees....and the universities(?) that came up with that crap should be closed.

Around 60% of the people who have earned degrees do not get a job in the field of their degrees.

Never understood the mentality of not being able to leave home and try something new. I was gone at 18 and glad to be gone. I always liked going far away but some of my classmates could not cut the cord and liked that "big fish in a small pond" feeling.

I used my degree, so take this for what it's worth. You need different thinkers in the world. If everyone only took science, accounting, education, math, etc. classes, then everyone would have the same experience. I like, for instance, that the docs at my kids' dr. office have varied backgrounds. There are biology majors, psychology, linguistics, and one dude that studied all the homeopathic stuff. Each one brings something different to the table, and we know which ones work best with each of our kids. That's just one field, but I'd say it could apply to many others.
