when I was a little boy, when the bear was at UK, my grandfather used to take me to every UK game, both home and away. Everyone in my little eastern Kentucky family were football crazy. Now that's not to say we didn't like basketball but the fall was football season and after football we all turned into basketball crazies. When bear left, it killed my grandfather. They were good friends for 30 years.
My grandfather said when bear left that the football program would suffer because the powers that be would turn into basketball only administration because of the prestige that basketball brought to the state. Even though football under the bear was a National power, it was not important. Winning in football was not important. But like then as now, basketball was it at UK.
Now, present day, football at UK sucks and Basketball is world famous. Only Bama football and Saban understand UK basketball and Cal. Bama will do anything to win period. The moral issues many post on here about who the next football coach should be never comes up in Alabama because winning means everything. The Bama fans ignore what the media says because they only care about winning. UK is the same just another sport.
No university president at Bama would ever care who the AD would hire because he is a Bama football fan first and university president second. In fact, when Bama makes a bad hire, they fire the coach and hire another. They fired Shula just to get Saban and the media tore them a new a## hole but Saban had just proven himself at Michigan State. Shula had lost to Auburn so that is unacceptable at Bama. They will do, hire, fire whoever because winning is more important than anything at The University of Alabama.

He always told me, in jest of course, for UK to ever have the same kind of program in football like they did under the bear was for many of th so called powers that be need to just die and go away. He said the other SEC schools treat football like Bama except UK who is the only SEC power in basketball.
So the bottom line is easy to understand. For UK to be a football power they must quit going to basketball games. They must fire Cal. Because he was once investigated by the NCAA and UK must give back all their basketball history. Rupp Arena should be turned into low income housing and return games to A new tent arena built by the new football AD. Now the new football AD will expand Commenwealth into 100,000 seat arena and football will be the game. The new coach will be hired because he wins. How he wins won't matter because if he fails they will just hire another one until they get it right.
That is what UK is up against playing football in the SEC in 2016.
