Drew Barker continues to impress. Towles would have no chance to beat him out this year.

Leavitt is still a project. Needs to get quicker and better mechanics.

Fortner looks good. Will be a starter maybe next year depending on if he rs's.

Tavin Richardson looks great and will get plenty of snaps this year.

Benny Snell is already better than Horton.

Loss of RM hurt but still think we win 7.

Thanks for the update - we take the good along with the bad but it sure is disappointing to hear Leavitt is now viewed as a "project". I'm sure the staff was counting on him to be a starter or at least significant contributor this year at OT. As has been suggested by some he probably moves to RT if Young is good enough to play either 1 or 2.

I was worried about Tate - let's hope the returning guys have really improved and Young can provide as a tr. frosh

Im not sure he even starts at RT but its probably the best move. Young is pushing forward and might start at some point this year. I think at this point you RS Drake Jackson also. If a couple players on the OL keep improving by the end of fall camp UK might have a solid unit even with depth.

I think the qb race would have been a toss up again. New system, new ideas. Towles would have had a good chance, especially that Gran would have let him run.

I think your very wrong on that. Drew has improved a lot. Towles did out perform him in practices last year. I seen it myself. Its a new year.

Thanks for the notes. However, I am curious about your "sources"? Do you get access to practice? Conversation with a friend who gets access? Media? Mark Stoops brother? [laughing] Again, since everything is pretty much locked down I'm just curious about what seems to be "straight from practice" infp.

Peace

Fair question. Former player speaking. Stoops and UK has been good to us. Most things we have access to but also you have to understand you cant take that to far. I go to some practices and football related stuff when work allows and yes at sometimes things are locked down unless your Tim Couch.

Thanks for the info, OP. Although.....didn't someone post a link the other day to a thread on the UofL board where they were laughing at us being trolled in a thread started by this poster?

The internet. A confusing place.

juco's, man. you hope & pray they can come in & be a bandaide at critical positions right as they step on campus but it often takes 'em a year of accimation just like a hs kid.

never forget Stevie Johnson could barely get onto the field his junior year, then exploded as a sr in 2007.

Red shirting Drake is a given IMO. Red shirting Tate would, of course, hinge on his development and also the development of Mason Wolfe. It wouldn't be wise to try to get through the entire season with only three guys (Mosier, Meadows and Young) at OT.

Mosier and Meadows as starters. Young and Wolfe 2nd. We have enough depth inside that we can swing Haynes and GAA out if need be. Allows us to redshirt Leavitt. Or, switch Young and Leavitt. Get four* years after RS vs. just two. Lots of scenarios there.

*maybe three

and several have been shown the door lately too, but nothing to do with this OP. You must be thinking of a different member, or former member :)

hate hate hate playing Landon Young in 2016 as only a backup. especially if the person he is backing up (Mosier) is a junior. if the LT position is being locked down then Young should be given a look to start at RT - if that doesnt work then please dont burn this year of his eligibility.

Thanks for the updates. Please keep them coming.

I think 6 wins is a gimme this year and 7 being my over/under. I think Stoops finally has his team, coaches and comfort level to take us to the next level.

Both RS frosh WRs are in competition for starting roles.

Towles truly sounds like a completely different QB in practice when he isn't getting hit and the lights aren't shining brightest.

I truly hope the light goes on for him at BC. But I love the idea of Barker for 3 years going forward. Knock On wood..

Thanks for all the first hand info, great stuff. Sounds like Eli is really coming on. Hard to get any info from someone that is actually there.

But all is not rosy, I am a little disappointed in you, if you had thrown for thousands of yards and lots of TDs like Tim you could be there for all the practices.

Hell, you wouldn't even have to worry about work.

I see alot of folks(not necessarily on this thread) who tend to underestimate the talent of the redshirted guys. Just because they RS doesn't mean they aren't talented. Brown is a HUGE talent. We have several guys who redshirted that would have played as a true frosh in the past.

Not downgrading Brown, but Stoops has in the past raved about Jones and when Brown took over #1, the comments were in large part about Jones and discipline, as if Jones lost it, rather than Brown winning it.

Young will not be at UK 5 years..no sense redshirting him...he will be getting paid well in 3 years

I can't get over being suspicious about qb reports. Especially since it appears the other qbs are only second thoughts, if even that.

The Towles era has put the fear of the Lord in me about qbs.

I think when there is a starter, the other QBs do not get as much press. That said, Hinshaw spoke quite a bit yesterday about SJ and clearly stated SJ is not a second thought and that he did not come to UK to be a second thought.

All the scouts with knowledge said Leavitt was much more suited to play guard, the fan base howled that no, he is a tackle. Even though his footwork and mobility are not up to snuff. Some lessons are learned hard.

That's encouraging but still not trusting the coach speech yet.

I hope Snell turns out to be better than Horton "right now"... that would be a big help to have another running back ready to play.

Re Leavitt being a project, which I equate to having great potential.

I remember taking to Jerry Claiborne when he was coaching at UK and said something like "so and so looks to have great potential"

I'll never forget his reply..... "Potential means ya ain't done nothin' yet"

It's a results oriented process.

Any thoughts as to what position best suits Fortner?
