3 articles discussing the football ban, UNC admin comments, and finally a UNC professor who wants to see the school vacate wins (long article).
This coming from the infractions imposed upon the football program in 2012:
""The major infractions were in football. And then I think in that
discovery process, we saw we had a little bit of a lack of oversight in a
certain department," said Cunningham. "But I do think that the issues
are very, very isolated."
This despite finding that 6 basketball players took a fradulent naval weapons class in '07, so that tells me its not just AFAM that is participating in this charade of institutional control.
Now the infractions upheld by the NCAA were more put on UNC themselves than what the NCAA imposed. From the link,

The penalties in this case include:
• Public reprimand and censure
• Three years of probation from March 12, 2012, through March 11, 2015 (UNC self-imposed two years of probation)
• Three-year show-cause penalty for a former assistant football coach prohibiting any recruiting activity
• Postseason ban for the 2012 football season
• Reduction of football scholarships by a total of 15 during three academic years
• Vacation of wins during the 2008 and 2009 seasons (self-imposed by the University) Total wins: 16
• $50,000 fine (self-imposed by the University)
• Disassociation of both the former tutor and former student-athlete
who served as an agent runner (self-imposed by the University)
As you can see in this model, the NCAA will just let UNC decide what the appropriate punishment will be. I am convinced of this after reading this. That $50K penaly is an absolute joke seeing what coaches have received as academic incentives.
The recent article talks about the honor that is supposedly accepted by all within the UNC system, but it isn't worth the ink its printed on:

Professor Margolis even questions the NCAA to be the enforcer in all this as they have proven otherwise.
Bubba speaks / proves he's part of the corruption
